This fan is compact, but packs a powerful "punch." A multi-speed fan that rotates, and can be felt through an entire room. Works great, but also looks great. We purchased two of the Black, and they fit in with every other piece of furniture we have without standing out like the old white, plastic fan we had. I would recommend this fan to anyone who wants an elegant looking piece that is also practical and meets your needs.Customer Review: Good design, BAD engineering

The fan is lovely and silent. Until you click on the top to make it oscillate. Within minutes.... click click click click.... the sound of two gears stripping instead of meshing.
This is a lot of money to pay for a fan that doesn't function properly one week out of the box.
Now I have to go try for a refund. I don't want a refund, I want what I paid for, a quiet oscillating fan.
Don't buy this model.

I've had this fan for 4 months now, and I just love it!! It has a retro appearance to it, and it is heavy and metal instead of plastic. It's very quiet and I don't experience any of the clicking that was mentioned in the other reviews.
I run it at night, for white noise, and it's almost too quiet to use for that, so if you want something a little louder to drown out noises, this might not be the best choice.

Seriously, this is the best fan I've ever purchased - and I've bought a number. I just moved into Senior Housing and while all utilities are included in the rent, the A/C in the bedroom just doesn't cut it during our 100 degree nights.
This Hunter fan is terrific - I had to check twice to be sure I only had it on low because the air circulation is so good. Quieter than the A/C. Highly recommended.

Ok, maybe it's a little expensive but this fan is great. Compare it to any other fan and you'll see why it costs more. Solidly built, cord comes out of the base (not the motor) and great design. I'm very pleased.
Update - I recently saw a similar Hunter fan at Target for less money. It's a different model than this one and not as well built. BE SURE TO CHECK MODEL NUMBERS WHEN DOING COMPARISONS
