Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hunter 90064 Bent Alabaster Glass Bathroom Fan

Customer Review: Has some problems
Summary: 3 Stars

Purchased the Hampton Bay Lowes version (Made by Hunter) for $118.00.
Primarily so I could return it easily after reading some reviews here.

Installed it in conjunction with HUNTER 27179 Bathroom Fan & Light Wall Control. (purchased from Amazon)
This switch allows you to have independent operation for Light and Fan, using only the single existing hot wire to your old light switch. You cannot use the night light in this configuration.

Instructions are excellent. I used the online pdf at Hunter.com. It shows things a little clearer. Installation into the ceiling was fairly easy, as I was able to access from both below and above. The actual location, into the hip roof eave was a challenge due to the geometry of the roof at that location. Involved lying face down, and stretching arms outright to secure between the ceiling joists. Don't try this at home, I am a long time residential contractor.
The unit is fairly quiet, the cfm is OK, but the light power is absolutely inadequate. I found 2 x 100w specialty bulbs that fitted inside and it is now acceptable. Its a shame this unit is compromised by poor design of the frosted lens which reduces the light output significantly. 6/10

Customer Review: beautiful but flawed
Summary: 3 Stars

Pro's:
(1) Very well written installation guide, with excellent drawings to guide the process.
(2) Good looking fixture -- not your typical bathroom fan. Better looking then anything available at Home Depot.
(3) Includes a night light!
Con's:
(1) Uses 2 smaller A15 bulbs instead of typical A19 household bulbs. Necessitated a trip to Home Depot to pick up these specialty bulbs.
(2) Night Light doesn't seem to work. Tried more then one bulb. Could be a wiring issue but, since the fan and main a15 bulbs work I don't think it is a problem with the way I wired it. Also, the night lite does not include a sensor so once it does work, I assume it will always be on. This was one of the reasons I bought this fixture -- so having the night light not working is a bummer.
(3) My biggest disappointment is how little light the fixture puts out. With two 60 watt bulbs I would expect some decent light -- yet the room is still quite dark with only this light on. I do have another light in the bathroom so I plan to use this fixture primarily as a night light and fan unit.

Great on looks but short on delivering lighting.

Customer Review: A LOT OF PROBLEMS ! !
Summary: 2 Stars

I am an electrical contractor and this fan is difficult to install. The sheet metal is too thin and the installation of sheet rock distorts it. I had to cut out sheet rock and bend the fan frame back into position to be able to mount the motor module. I have never had this problem with the dozens of Panasonic fans I've installed because the sheet metal is heavier and can stand up to sheet rockers less that perfect cuts.

The junction box is in the back of the fan frame so if you need to service it, it requires complete dissasembly of the unit while all other units I have installed have the junction box at the front of the inards of the fan.

The damper only opens half way. After application of WD-40 still doesn't open fully and doesn't close fully when the fan is turned off.

It takes 2 non-standard light bulbs. So an extra trip to the supply house.

I looks wonderful but, that is all I can say that is positive.

Lowe's makes a Hampton Bay that is a knock off of this fan for a lot less money.

Customer Review: Looks and works good, but dim light
Summary: 4 Stars

This light works good, I really like the looks, but the light output in very dim...could be due to frosted glass I am guess....Works good in my guest bath as it is small...The dim light is made up by my vanity mirror lights. Would not recommend as a primary light, works best as a night light, would work good for a soft light for maybe a tub soak or such as long as others light were around to brighten the room when needed, and for looks and the fan.

In Summary:

Pros:

Looks good
Good fan
Good soft light
Good night light

Cons:
Way to dim for primary lighting

Customer Review: Hunter Bathroom Fan
Summary: 4 Stars

PROS: Very nice bathroom fan, sleek, stylish, super super quiet and very very efficient.

CONS: The light is very dim. We put in 2x 60 watts bulbs (max recommended) but it still looks more like a night light. If this fan will be your only source of light in the bathroom you might have to reconsider. The frosted glass on the unit dims the light. Also, measure carefully; the height (from the ceiling down) is a good 2.5 inches. If you have a low ceiling (ours is 9ft; but the unit looks low-hanging) this might not be the fan for you.

RECOMMEND: Yes, I would buy it again.
