Tools and Hardware Reviews of InSinkErator Evolution Excel 1.0 HP Household Food Waste Disposer

Customer Review: Quiet and easy to install
Summary: 5 Stars

Installation was easy and the product is extremely quiet. The only hangup I had was that my original builder hard wired the previous unit to the electrical wire (which should have been no problem to deal with since this is common) but my previous unit used an elbow connection out of the bottom of the old inSinkErator and the flexible conduit was attached to this elbow connection. This new unit has a elevated lip on the bottom of the unit that did not allow me to just screw in the old elbow connection as there was not enough clearance. It required a trip to the hardware store to get a new flexible conduit holder that went straight down from the unit. Ironically, this elevated lip was cracked on my unit from the factory or from shipping but it does not seem to provide any function so I did not return the unit to Amazon.

Customer Review: It grinds
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this maybe about two months ago and it works well. It replaced an old Insinkerator when we upgraded the dishwasher. It is pretty quiet, although I swear it seems louder than when first installed. If you have a double sink, note that the noise volume is considerably louder when the second drain in open. But whatever, I didn't but it for then noise, I bought it for the power.

The pulsing feature is pretty cool. It's a little alarming at first because it sounds like something is wrong, but it's just doing its job if you put something substantial down there it. It seems to grind through things very quickly, much faster than the old disposal. Seems way overkill for our kitchen, but it appears to be a quality product and I won't be kicking myself for buying something underpowered.

Customer Review: The in-home warranty is no-hassle
Summary: 5 Stars

I won't go on about how awesome this disposal is, the previous reviews are all accurate. I did have a warranty issue however that I wanted to share. After eyeing this disposal for years I finally decided to pick one up from my neighborhood Lowes. Installation was a snap as I had a previous model installed. However when I went to turn it on it was dead. I double-checked the installation and verified power was coming to the unit. For whatever reason I just got a bad apple. These things happen. I called In-Sinkerator and they gave me a local appliance repair shop to contact for the warranty. The next day they were out, verified it was a unit problem and replaced it (and installed it) with a brand new unit at no cost to me. And I still have 6 years, 364 days left on the in-home warranty.

Customer Review: They really missed it
Summary: 1 Stars

This could be a nice product. It is expensive enough to make me think lots of positive things about the product and the company. The disposer did not have all of the parts included. The missing part is one that is installed at the factory and is not sold separately. A week has passed since I called the Customer Support at InSinkErator. The initial promise was to send me the part FED EX two day delivery. I called again on Wednesday and I could not get any information from the Customer support person other than the problem was logged in. No shipping date nor carrier was available. This is very frustrating that they would let a product ship with out proper quality control and now be so unresponsive after their mistake.

Customer Review: Not a Great Disposer!
Summary: 2 Stars

This disposer seems like a dream, but doesn't live upto it. I've had one for 6 months now. For "easy" waste it is quiet and works well. For "tough" waste (which is why you would buy this one) it sucks. Banana peels, onion skins, chicken fat, and other "tough" materials just don't go away, they sit while the unit just spins and spins. Recently, I even had the whole unit fall (become unattached from my sink).

I have complained to insinkerator about the fact that food doesn't go away, and even spoken to an authorized repair rep. The rep said that the newer units grind the food smaller and take longer. Well, forever is alot longer than I expected. Even a 3-4 minute spin isn't enough for tough foods.
