Tools and Hardware Reviews of InSinkErator SST-FLTR 2/3-Gallon Stainless Tank and Filtration SystemCustomer Review: Another leaking tank Summary: 2 Stars
I installed an InSinkErator hot water dispenser in the spring of 2007 during a kitchen remodel. Over the weekend, I had one of the GFCI circuits in my kitchen trip twice and, as it was the only thing plugged into that circuit, determined the fault was with the InSinkErator unit. After calling the plumber who installed it this AM, I was cleaning out the cabinet and found a puddle of water with a steady drip coming from the seam in the base of the unit. While checking online for replacement costs, I came across the Amazon reviews and decided to call InSinkErator even though my unit was out of warranty. The customer service rep told me mine was built in July 2006 (based on serial #) and was out of warranty, but immediately followed up be saying, "as a courtesy," InSinkErator would ship me a free replacement tank unit in the next 5-7 days. While I'm unhappy the unit failed, I'm not going to complain about the customer service. I'll install the new one when it arrives and keep a close eye on it. If I can get another 4 years out of this one, I'll have probably gotten my money's worth.
Quick update: New unit was on my doorstep in 3 days. Installed, working fine... time will tell.
Customer Review: There should be a class action lawsuit against InSinkErator! Summary: 1 Stars
Based on all of the reviews on here, it is pretty easy to conclude that this product is flawed. I am replacing my "old style" tank with the new SST-FLTR as well. After about 2 years of use of use, my tank ruptured as well, leaking water in my new cabinets. There was an abundance of corosion on the unit as well. InSinkErator Customer Service was most unhelpful. First they told me the product was out of warranty, which it wasn't. Then the pulled the same BS that they tried with other people on hear asking for a receipt. When they gave me the name and number of the authorized service center, they wanted to charge me $90per hour for labor and a $110 service call charge. This product should have been recalled. It clearly has design and engineering flaws.
I purshased the SST-FLTR to replace the broken unit. In my opinion, InSinkErator should have replaced the old units with the new ones, free of charge! The only reason I stayed with InSinkErator is because I need the new unit to work with the existing faucets. I hope I have better luck with this unit.
I'm not sure if there is a competing company for Instant Hot, but if there is I would highly consider it.
Customer Review: Works great Summary: 5 Stars
I recently did a kitchen remodel and was looking here on Amazon to get a stainless/satin nickel looking dispenser to replace the cream colored one we have. I'm suprised at all the hate towards this product as mine has worked just fine for the past 2 years. The only issue is it randomly dribbles an ounce or so of water out without touching it. This happens maybe once every couple hours. I'm still happy with the product. I've called their customer service before to ask them how to remove the Y connector and the representative immediatly was able to tell me how to do this and sent me a new one just case I messed up the one I had. So no issues with customer service as far as I have been involved with them.
In my humble opinion, most folks will not take the time to post a positive comment and thus what you usually see for reviews are the folks that post negative things. Every manufacturer will get a fluke from the production line. You can put money on the fact that when someone out in the internet community purchases something that performs poorly, they will go out of their way to let others know about their bad experience.
Customer Review: Appears to be a big improvement Summary: 5 Stars
Only time will tell, but the SST-FLTR heating replacement appears to be a noticable improvement over the original heating unit. My original instant hot water heater began leaking after about 3 years of use. This replacement has an external dial that allows for temperature adjustment depending on how hot you really want your water. We actually didn't need it to be scalding hot, so we've moved the dial to the 12 o'clock position and it seems to be fine for our purposes. The casing is thick, solid plastic and the connectors and tubing appears to be improved over the early model. The heating unit also seems to be better insulated than the original, so hopefully it will keep the water hotter longer and actually save some energy.
My only gripe is with the pricing of the SST-FLTR only. Cheapest that I could find was $199 online, yet my local hardware store sells brand new H770-SS models (dispenser and heating unit) for $179. Same heating unit as the SST-FLTR. I used the heating unit as my replacement and I'll see if I can sell the dispenser part for a few bucks at auction.
Customer Review: No problem on warranty Summary: 4 Stars
I had the stainless tank on my InSinkErator SST hot water dispenser go out after @2.5 years. Not sure if it rusted or had some other internal defect as I didn't take it apart like others who write reviews have tried. I called the InSinkErator support line and gave them the serial #. They said my unit was made Sept 2008 and had 3 year warranty so it was still covered (Now Apr 2011) even without receipt. They gave me 2 options:
1) send a technician out free of charge to try and fix/replace it but that if it isn't defective, I pay for the service call.
or
2) "Do it yourself option" ... Send me a new tank free of charge + a $25 Visa gift card.
Wow! I chose #2 since I installed the first one anyway. Great customer service. It was an easy 5 minute phone call to their service center. The new tank will ship FedEx an be here within a week. Like others who have reviewed, I hope they fix the original manfuacturing of the stainless tank. If not, I'll buy another brand. But, hey, that's good cusotmer service and I am glad I called!
