Tools and Hardware Reviews of InSinkErator SST-FLTR 2/3-Gallon Stainless Tank and Filtration SystemCustomer Review: HOT WATER - Good when working but won't last Summary: 4 Stars
This is my 3rd InSinkErator tank. The first two were the older metal tanks with the third being the 2/3 gallon Stainless tank. Would have thought that dependability issues would have been addressed with the mfg. going stainless. Not so!!! It likewise, lasted barely two years and its starting to leak. What a pity, since it performs flawlessly while working, but once a leak developes, replacement of the tank is eventually required. Am now going with the KitchenAid Hot Water system instead. Prevent unnecessary waterdamage and save your kitchen undersink woodwork. Spend the money on another brand.
UPDATE: Installer felt so bad about the hot water tank failure he offered to replace it "Free-of-Charge" as Insinkerator is sending him a replacement tank. Have since changed my rating from 2 star to 4 stars as the mfg. is stepping up to the plate with superb customer service. Have read from one of the reviews that an internal hose is the main culprit causing leaks which has since been modified at the factory. Lets see if this new tank will last much longer.
Customer Review: Another Failure and Design Comments Summary: 1 Stars
Like others, my unit started to leak after 2 years and 10 months. I requested a replacement from ISE after a long wait on the customer service phone line. The replacement will be warranted for the remaining period of the original warranty (about a month). They are sending the replacement without asking for the original to be returned. In the product design world that means that they know exactly what is wrong with the design and are not bothering to analyze further failures. I will not keep the replacement hot water heater installed for more than a couple of months while I shop for a safer and better made unit.
BE AWARE. DO NOT BUY OR RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. CHECK YOUR UNIT FOR LEAKING. Failure of the hose and leaking of the overflow/output is assured within two or three years with the current design. The unit will leak when water is drawn and any water in the tank will boil out through the degraded and cracked internal hose/connectors. All of the water will end up under the sink and cabinet and structural damage, mold, and mildew may result.
Customer Review: Insinkerator hot water tank Summary: 4 Stars
InSinkErator SST-FLTR 2/3-Gallon Stainless Tank and Filtration System
The hot water unit by Insinkerator is "POOR" at best. Their Customer service is very hard to deal with. I bought this unit in August as replacement for a leaking tank. Now 5 months later it puts out a loud "RUMMBLE" when heating up. This is their idea of a replacement unit it is poor. I have spoken with other people that have this same unit and it is always the same problem, Noisy and leaking. Their engineering is doing a poor job at building a unit that works. I love the concept and hate the product. I would look for a better quality unit made by someone else. If I were doing over again would "NOT' use this company. Customer service is also poor need to read poor reviews to see how they treat customers. Only phone number to get a hold of. No Internet contact and must jump through hoops. Buyer beware of this company. No small print to read, but they have it
Customer Review: Terrible Quality - Heating Element Failed Once and Tank Leaked Twice Summary: 1 Stars
I would give it a 0, but Insinkerator does send people out to replace the filter, so they get a 1.
The product is good, when it works. The problem is that the quality is terrible, and when it fails, it can cause property damage.
We purchased this product in early 2006, and as of this writing, it has failed three times. The first time, the heating element failed, and Insinkerator replaced it. The second time, the unit leaked all of its contents out, damaging our wooden cabinetry. When they replaced the unit, I wisely put a bucket underneath it. It came in handy when it failed yet again, dumping all of the water into the bucket I placed underneath it.
If you decide to purchase this unit, please make sure that it's accessible for replacement and that you place a bucket underneath it. Check the bucket regularly. Also, make sure that the temperature is set to hot, but not boiling; otherwise, water will constantly run from the dispenser and the unit will burn itself out. Good luck.
Customer Review: Save your money Summary: 1 Stars
After purchasing 2 InSinkErator "Standard" models that failed between 3-4 years, I thought that the Stainless Steel model would be an improvement. Wrong.
This EXPENSIVE SST model lasted 3 years and 6 months. While the stainless tank didn't rust, the heating element pressed into the side of the tank did. InSinkErator used to have a good name for excellent products. Now they build junk.
Read the above review about denial of warranty because a plumber didn't install a unit. Not only do they build JUNK, but they are THUGS with hidden terms and conditions for warranty. How hard is it to push three hoses on to the top and plug the unit in? I really don't need a $120 plumber to do it.
Now I'm committed because I have a high-dollar hot and cold dispenser, else I would never buy another thing from this company. This unit was likely DESIGNED TO FAIL after 3 years. Mark their products as POS.
