Tools and Hardware Reviews of InSinkErator SST-FLTR 2/3-Gallon Stainless Tank and Filtration System

Customer Review: Great Replacement Tank!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had to replace my tank because my old one died and started leaking, which I've had in place since 2003. I'm a huge fan of the insinkerator products because of the convenience of the hot water dispenser and space saving aspect on my countertop. Install was an absolute snap - the only difficulty was getting under the sink area itself, which once my husband fit under there, reattaching the 3 tubes from the dispenser head was as easy as 1-2-3. For added leak protection, he fit a small bucket around the base of the tank with a cable looped over the top of the unit to hold the bucket in place.

I recall the warning sign was when the hot water would sputter when depressing the hot button. Didn't think too much of it until water started building up around my garbage pale under the sink, so I guess I'll watch for that in the future.

This unit is great with the adjustable temp setting and it certainly is quiet.

Customer Review: InSinkerator SST-FLTR 2/3 Gallon Water Heater
Summary: 2 Stars

The InSinkErator SST-FLTR 2/3 Gallon Stainless Tank and filtration System is sold as a stand alone unit as Instant Hot Water dispenser for a price ranging from $189.00 - $220.00. In fact is can not be used stand alone unless you have 7/16 polyethylene pipe to connect to the fittings on the water heater. Plumbing suppliers that I contacted informed me that 7/16 polyethylene pipe is no longer manufactured. When I contacted the distributor I was told that this unit can only be used with InSinkErator faucets that are sold separate at a price of approximately $200.00.

I really wanted this unit to work so I exployed numerous suppliers of polyethylene pipe and found that size 7/16" is non-existant. If the manufacture wanted to sell this product as a stand alone item they should include all the necessary connections required to use it.

After many frustrating hours I repackaged the product and returned it.

Customer Review: Lasted 3.5 years. Try another brand. (Waste King)
Summary: 2 Stars

I installed this heater in 2007. Shortly after 3 years of operation, the unit began tripping the ground-fault plug erratically. Suspecting a faulty plug I replaced it with a new one. Same problem. Eventually the plastic heating element cover melted down and began to smoke.
I took the unit apart and found that all of the heating element connections were plastic and melted. No way to repair the unit with a new heating element either. I was forced to throw it away and buy a new one.
Because of others reviews I purchased the Waste King unit and I am very impressed so far. All metal cover and heavier than the Insinkerator. The faucet is also of higher quality than the Insinkerator. For $75 less, there is no reason not to buy the Waste King unit, even if it last 3 years (although reviews have indicated more reliable operation out of the Waste King units.)

Customer Review: InSinkErator replacement tank
Summary: 5 Stars

Our hot water dispenser pressure dropped and then water started leaking from the top of the tank installed below the sink. I called the InSinkErator help desk at the number on the tank. They were very helpful and determined that I needed to replace the tank and not any of the hardware above the sink. They said the tank model I had (6 years old) had been discontinued and gave me the replacement model number and confirmed the new tank model would be compatible with the hardware.

I engaged a plumber to install the tank and everything went smoothly and now works perfectly again. Once you have one of these hot water dispensers - and don't have to wait minutes to heat water in a teapot - it becomes a major emergency when they go out! We were very pleased with the competent InSinkErator help desk which resolved the problem quickly.

Customer Review: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!! After only 2 1/2 years unit began sputtering when we tried to get hot water. Then we noticed a leak that had been slowly ruining our cabinets. And it is NOT the simple leak that a lot of reviews are mentioning, where the tube becomes brittle. Ours is leaking from the heating element.... VERY DANGEROUS AND POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD!!

I wish much that I had read these reviews before buying this unit!!!!! Now we are going to have to buy a whole new system and have a plumber come and help us install it and change everything out properly. Because we are not about to go through this 3 or 4 times like so many of the people posting here have had to do!

AND SHAME ON AMAZON FOR CONTINUING TO FEATURE THIS ITEM AFTER SO MANY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS HAVE GONE THROUGH SO MUCH TROUBLE WITH IT.
