Tools and Hardware Reviews of Incra T-RULE12 12-Inch Precision Marking T-RuleCustomer Review: Absolutely Repeatable Marking. Best Tool Ever for Mortises! Summary: 5 Stars
I echo the words of the other reviewer. I use this thing all the time. It is the only measuring device I ever use when laying out mortises.
Try this with your ruler. Mark 3-31/32" from then edge of your wood and then lift your ruler, move your wood around and try to use the same ruler to make the same measurement. I'm not saying it can't be done, but with this thing, you can draw a .5mm line E-X-A-C-T-L-Y over the one you previously drew. It's not off by a "hair" or a "smidgin" or "a little", it's dead-on. By sliding the "fence" on this t-rule across your edge as you make your mark, it's possible to make a repeatable and exact measurement from the edge of your board all the way down the length of the board in any increment (down to 64ths). I stress repeatability because that's very important when trying to mark two separate pieces exactly the same. Since this ruler came into my shop, I occasionally amaze myself, and that alone makes it worth the price!
Customer Review: Perect for making exact and repeatable measurements Summary: 5 Stars
The ruler is a wide, very thin piece of spring metal that has holes and slots in it every 1/64th of an inch. There's a T bar at one end that allows you to put the ruler up against a board or any surfact with a raised edge and meadure precisely, using a standard thin-lead mechanical pencil. If you guide the T bar along the edge and leave the pencil in a slot, you can mark a line that's exactly parallel to the edge, and the meaurement is perfectly repeatable because of the accurately placed slots in the metal rule. It works exactly as advertised and the accuracy fully justifies the price.
A couple of cautions: The rule is very thin, so you have to handle it gently to avoid putting a permanent bend in it. You shouldn't put anything heavy on top of it. I kept the blster pack and I put the rule back into the pack and hang it up to keep it out of harm's way when it's not being used. And you have to hold the ruler firmly against the edge when you slide it to mark a line parallel to that edge.
Customer Review: Incra 12" T-Rule - Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
If you're like me you've been looking at this ruler again and again, leaving it in your cart or on your wishlist. It's expensive and I'm cheap! Who the heck would spend $25.00 on a darn ruler? Well, I did. I finally bit the bullet and bought one and I can honestly say, "WOW, I'm impressed. Stop waiting and buy the thing! These are without a doubt the best woodworking rules on the market. I won't go into the details of the rulers. You can read that in the product information. I use it for making shop drawings and then down in the shop to layout lumber. Exceptional accuracy and an all around exceptional product. You won't be sorry. I like them so much I've ordered the 3" T-Rule and the 12" Bend Rule and I'm sure I'll be ordering the rest of the Incra Measuring Products.
Customer Review: Awesome piece of equipment Summary: 5 Stars
I know, I know, it seems like nothing more than a really expensive ruler. But the extreme precision of the marking holes and the T-square bar make it a totally different animal in use. It's a beautifully manufactured and well thought out improvement on a basic tool. Works great.
My only gripe is that you'll need a very sharp pencil to make use of the marking holes. A generic mechanical pencil is too coarse unless you sharpen it to a point. I've been looking out for finer mechanical pencils, but so far I haven't seen one - you might have to visit a drafting supply store to get something like that.
Customer Review: Excellent tool! Summary: 5 Stars
I build dollhouse miniatures, and this ruler is indispensable. I bought it after trying repeatedly to cut four cabinet drawer fronts all the same size. Now I not only have matching drawers, the drawer pulls are all in line, too. The T-rule insures that all the measurements start at the same place, and the slots in the ruler insure they end in exactly the right place. No more time wasted lining up the end of the ruler exactly with the end of the wood, and no more time wasted trying to be sure to mark in the exact same space in relation to the line on a "regular" ruler. Worth every penny!
