My feet were always cold when working at my computer, but this is no longer a problem since I bought this foot warmer. This warmer keeps my feet warm, and my whole body feels warmer as a result. The warmer has a built in thermostat, but it gets a little too hot for me, and it cannot be adjusted, so I bought a 300 watt lamp dimmer for $10, and this works great. It allows me to control the temperature and turn the unit on and off without unplugging it. Before I bought the foot warmer, I was concerned about the smell after reading a previous review, but after getting the product, the smell has not bothered me at all, and I believe it would not be an issue for most people since I cannot smell it, and I have a sensitive nose.Customer Review: Just what I needed

Yes, it's plain. Yes, it emits a rubber smell for a while. But it does the job. My feet were always cold - to the point of pain sometimes - under my desk. Socks and slippers helped but some days even that was insufficient. This pad delivers just the right amount of heat and at only 90 watts won't run my electric bill up. Best personal purchase I've made in a while.
UPDATE: Still satisfied, the outgassing is pretty much over so the smell isn't there any more. I plugged it into an incandescent light dimmer (X10) and put a small nightlight in the same circuit. So now I can dim it with the X10 controller and the nightlight gives me a visual correlation with the amount of heat I need from the pad.

I read the reviews that others had posted about the rubber smell but also read what the manufacturer said about fixing this issue so decided to try it anyway. There IS a smell at first but this only lasts a day or two. This mat offers just the right amount of radiant heat for under my desk in the winter. I absolutely love it!!! I sit in a reception area with a lot of incoming traffic and blasts of cold air. A space heater not only gives off too much heat...it's unsightly. I can't say enough positive about this mat. I definately recommend it. If the smell bothers you, you could always put it in the garage or basement for a couple days until the rubber smell "burns" off before you put it under your desk.Customer Review: necessity for computer users

Anyone who sits at a computer for any length of time and gets cold feet and legs MUST purchase this item. The warmth permeates even my winter boots and keeps me warm right to the top of my head. I haven't turned on my space heater since I got this product. As for the smell, I've only encountered a very faint odor, and only the first few times we used it. Nothing overwhelming (and I am extremely sensitive to odors) and the packaging actually warns you about it. I recommend this to any and everyone who sits for any period of time at a desk or computer. Actually, I am getting another to put by my reading chair in the room which is on a slab thus the floor is colder than the rest of the house!Customer Review: It gets hot

I got this for my wife for Christmas because she spends a lot of time at her desk and always complains of having cold feet. I didn't have any issues with smell like the other posters. It didn't really give off any big odor. I did return it though because it was way too hot. She said she could only keep her feet on it for a few seconds at a time before it was unbearable. It was only after more research that I saw there is an optional high/low switch you can buy. We're going to go with a different type of product instead though since there are nicer ones out there for cheaper than the price of this with the switch. Also, Amazon was wonderful about returning the item and refunding us.
