Tools and Hardware Reviews of Intermatic EJ500C Indoor Digital Wall Switch TimerCustomer Review: Easy Installation, Poor Operation Summary: 1 Stars
Pros:
Installation was very easy and it looks great as a flush-mount. Turns on as according to the program
Cons:
The lights do not turn off according to the program. I woke up on several mornings to see that my patio lights were still on despite the program telling it to turn off at 2:00am. I've gone through the entire manual, reset the device and reprogrammed but nothing. Now it's on the wall but I keep the program off. Didn't work out very well for me at all.
Customer Review: Don't buy it Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased my first EJ500 switch in May 2007. It lasted until October when it failed and was replaced by Intermatic. The replacement lasted one week. If the above doesn't convince you, I also had (past tense) an Intermatic ST01 in a different application, purchased from Ganesburg Electric. They replaced that timer three times -- that's four failed timers. They kindly, unlike Amazon, refunded my full purchase price. I will never knowingly purchase an Intermatic brand device again.
Customer Review: A great little gizmo! Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered this timer to control my porch light and the lights on each side of my garage. Installation instructions were complete and easy to follow. I agree that the screen is a little hard to see, but its not a big deal. Here is a good tip....program the timer first thing. Then install. It is way easier to set it up while holding it in your hand then to mess with it when it is in the wall.
Turns on my outside lights at 5:00pm. Turns them off at 1:15am. Awesome.
Customer Review: One Less Thing to Worry About Summary: 3 Stars
This timer works well - once you've got it programmed. The instructions are a bit confusing, as they are on a variety of electronic devices that have a number of functions and not that many buttons (lots of hoops to jump through). The display and buttons are very small and difficult to read, and it WILL NOT work with compact fluorescent bulbs (you'll burn the unit out) - but if you're like me and just want to turn some lights on at dusk and off again at dawn, it does the job.
Customer Review: Hours, yes hours to program... Summary: 1 Stars
This is a real piece of junk. First, I spent several hours attempting to program it. One of the difficulties is the LCD screen is damn near impossible to read particularly if the timer is in the wall at light switch level. Then, you'll need to bend over and have a bright light source. Second, the programming buttons are so small I had to use a stylus. Finally, if there was an easy way to override the program in an emergency, I didn't find it mentioned in the instructions.
