Tools and Hardware Reviews of Intermatic LX19720T Malibu Outdoor Lighting Kit with Fourteen Tier Lights, Six Floodlights plus 88-Watt Power Pack/Timer, BlackCustomer Review: This product is HORRIBLY cheap....except the power pack. Summary: 2 Stars
Plastic junk, poorly packaged, broken pieces in the box.
I opened the box expecting some decent lighting fixtures...what I found was plastic lighting that you have to put together...and good luck with that since when you get to the bottom of the box you will inevitably find broken pieces. I called in to get replacements, and I could not even get a live person to speak to...forget it. The only value in this package is the power pack and the wiring, which you can use with real Malibu metal fixtures at a later date...which is why I am giving it 2 stars. The lights, the ones that work, are not overbearing and provide a nice dim glow to your landscape....remember they are plastic and will break easily if you dont dig a hole before you put them in the ground.
I have 4 broken lights...and a decision to make, dismantle the whole darn thing and return it to Amazon or live with it...what would you do after spending hours putting all of it together?
I write a lot of reviews...but I am so disgusted by this product that I cant say much more....
Customer Review: Missing parts Summary: 1 Stars
First, know that you will need to build all of these lights yourself. Each of the spot lights come in seven pieces and the tier lights come in 8 pieces. They aren't hard to put together, but time consuming. It's not packed up very well, and I'm shocked that none of the parts were broken. There is only exactly enough parts to build all the lights, so if say a light bulb breaks in shipping, you're going to be ordering replacement parts. In my case all of the light sockets (a tiny little piece ) were missing for the spot lights. Not a shocker, with the haphazard way all the pieces were packed in the box. Ordering replacements is a pain. Their service department is only open mon-fri 8:00am-4:30pm central time. The parts can also be ordered online, but you have to fax them your proof of purchase after creating your warranty parts claim (a time consuming, multi-step process). If I hadn't spent all the time building all the tier lights before I figured out I was missing the sockets, I would have shipped the whole thing back to Amazon. I still might.
Customer Review: Good Value - Great Service Summary: 4 Stars
I am not sure why Amazon asks for a review this shortly after purchase, since mine have only been installed for a few weeks (I'd like to see how they perform after a year in all weather conditions).
In any event...
These malibu lights are all plastic and cheaply made.
However, I believe the price appropriately reflects that.
You get what you pay for.
They do look very nice - however (they are all plastic).
I am hoping they do not fade from the sun after this summer.
These are great for a starter home or to spruce-up an older home.
I would spend a little more to get metal ones if you plan on being in your home for many years.
It took 1-2 hours to put the pieces together and 1-2 hours to install.
On a level of 1 to 10 difficulty, I would give it a 3 (easy).
Their customer service was EXCELLENT. I broke a plastic piece (100% my fault) during installation. They sent a new one out for free and I received it in 2 days!
Customer Review: Excellent and inexpensive light set. Summary: 5 Stars
The Intermatic LX19720T Malibu Outdoor Lighting Kit is a great value. Everything you need is included in the box, including bulbs and 100 feet of wire. The plastic tier-lights are sturdy and easy to assemble. The floodlights are not quite as easy to assemble, and seem to me like they might give me problems in the future, but they all worked on the first try out of the box. The floodlights look to me like they'll fill with water, or break when I change the bulbs. The power supply looks weather resistant, but I mounted mine in a dry area just to be sure. Overall, everything worked on the first try, and assembly of the parts was quick and easy. All the lights have been running for a couple of weeks with intermittent rain, and all the connectors, wire-tap crimps, and fixtures are holding up great so far. This set is a great value, providing a large number of lights for about $2.50 each. (And at that price, the power-pack is free...)
Customer Review: Very good set for the price Summary: 5 Stars
After reading all the (relatively) positive reviews for this product, I went ahead and bought this set. Super Fast shipping, after I chose the free shipping option!
All the parts were intact, nothing broken. I have a little bit of experience with other landscape lights, so assembling the lights was not a major problem. Sometimes it was hard to push the golden connector (and wire) through the clear plastic bulb holder, but a small screw driver did the trick.
Laying out the lights also was not too bad. After connecting the wire to the transformer and laying it out where I wanted it (around my pool), I connected the light fixtures one by one and none of them had a problem lighting up.
The only suggestion I have is that they include a couple of extra wires and bulb holders because if you do get one wrong (I did), you have no spare parts!
Good buy on the whole.
