Customer Review: Intermatic ML300RTW Malibu 300-Watt Transformer
Summary: 5 Stars

Although I've not install this transformer at this writing, I've opened the package and read the manual. The unit appears to be sturdy and well-built. Most of my lights to be connected are LED and should not add up to anywhere near the capactiy of this transforner, but I did want one that could handle whatever else I intend to connect in the future. There will be a combination of assorted lights including a gas lamp post being converted to low voltage, concrete pagoda, rock lights, solar pagodas converted to low voltage, etc. The area being covered includes front, back and side yards. This project has been in the planning stages for over a year mainly due to locating the appropriate fixtures to create the look I wanted. The gas lamp post is being converted from natural gas to low voltage using a kit, but not all of the inclusive parts because I'm integrating with the rest of the lighting. The solar pagodas are being converted by extracting parts from available LED fixtures and retrofitting into the pagodas. Had intended to purchase "ready-to-go" fixtures, but these just aren't available anywhere. The lighting is primarily intended to highlight various landscape features such as several fountains, birdhouses, etc. along with pathlights. The entire system will be controlled by this transformer with the optional photocell. I'm a hardcore DIY person and not timid in experimenting or doing what had not been done before.Intermatic ML300RTW Malibu 300-Watt Power Pack with Timer and Ground Shield

Customer Review: Intermatic ML300RTW Power Pack/Timer
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased the Intermatic ML300RTW Maliabu 300 Power Pack w/Timer and groud a couple of days ago from Amazon. The first one shipped out did not work. It was(faulty)out of the box, thinking here we go! I made the return on the item the next day and was shipped a (new) one in a couple of days if that by Amazon. I have to say shipping is not an issue, it is fast. I did buy this particular power supply for the low cost and easy functions including installation. I had shopped all over including local dealers and could not find a better price for what I needed, installing landscape lighting. I also could have purchased a smaller wattage unit but made my decision on 300w was for future add on's if needed with no problem, such as dimming lights which is mentioned on a regular basis in other review installations. I did read all the reviews posted on Amazon before I made my purchase having to disagree with some of the other opinions on this particualr item, (small dial) for time setting and the (humming noise) which I would think this is some what normal to a degree, remember the cost.
I would have to give this item a great value for the cost and if I get a few years of usage out of it, it is money worth spent.

Customer Review: Xcellent for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

I ordered this to replace a 300W Kitchler transformer, about 8 years old. I had replaced the timer on that 3 times, and it was not keeping time properly (never could figure out the problem). Those carry a 10 year warranty, but I did not have the receipt, and was having no luck getting a contact to buy the timer part again. Plus, I had paid $100, and now they were nearly $300. So, the price on this sucked me in. Seems to be good quality, yet there are two "loose items" that rattle around inside the case, but it works perfectly, so no complaints. I don't have the noise problem that some people report. An paper installation template and mounting screws would be a good cheap addition for help in mounting, but I was able to handle it without- just drill two holes 4" apart, and get your own mounting screws. (I used mine from the old transformer.) The power cord was shorter than the Kitchler, so I had to move the location closer to my electrical outlet, and patch the holes from the Kitchler.

Customer Review: MUCH better than the Hampton Bay 300w transformer
Summary: 4 Stars

Bought the Hampton Bay 300w transformer first since it was cheaper and included a photo cell on/off. Boy was that a mistake. It was extremely noisy and grossly under-powered. It was so loud that you could hear the high pitch hum of the unit from the porch all the way to the street. The biggest complaint was the fact that the lights looked very very dim. I just assumed it was too long of a lead and too much load; 100ft of 12ga with a total of 280w worth of lights.

Enter the Malibu.
Much heavier and better built than the HB. I was a little disappointed that mounting hardware, mounting template, and instructions were not included. Luckily the set up and mounting were fairly easy, so I can let that slide. The power that the unit puts out and how quiet it is has been makes it worth every penny. The lights now are at full intensity and look wonderful. So long as the unit holds up over time, (which I expect it will) I will be very happy.

Customer Review: Terribly disappointed
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this item the Intermatic ML300RTW low voltage transformer in August of this year, 2010. This was the fourth one which was purchased between July and August of 2010. All four items experienced similar problem. To Amazon.com credit, they did replace the items promptly. The problem is that the clock slows down considerably as much as 4 to 5 hours behind schedule. This was after an average of 2 to 3 days after being placed in service. The transformer was used to power my driveway lights.

The last item was sent back to Intermatic for replacements. They refuse to honor a 2 day delivery as was done by Amazon.com saying that it was too costly. It was now 4 days and I am still waiting for the replacement from Intermatic. I found Intermatic very unprofessional and unresponsive. I would avoid their products at all cost. If the replacement does not work this time, I will just ask for a refund.
