Both my transformers went bad at the same time, due to a power surge - according to Malibu. I thought this would be a good alternative and cost less than buying two smaller transformers.
This power pack is very noisy when it turns on, which one could overlook, if it did the job for which I bought it. It works fine with ONE set of six lights, but as soon as I connected the other string of six, only the very first light was bright, and the others were orange, and the second set would not give off any light at all. A BIG MISTAKE. It's unfortunate that we don't have more brands to choose from.

I got this to replace a 100W unit, making this the third replacement in about 20 years. I wanted to add some additional landscape floods which would put me close to the lower limit, so going to 300W would provide plenty of reserve.
Installation simple just like the others, except I had to drill another wall anchor for the two holes rather than just a single wall anchor used with the lower wattage units.
Works fine for my application. The new 100W units don't look as robust as the old units, so for me this was a good choice for only a slight increase in price.

Decent quality steel case.Mechanical timer.
I had the Hampton Bay 300 watt model....DO NOT BUY HAMPTON BAY TRANSFORMERS. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS VERY BAD AND THERE IS NOT EVEN ANY WARRANTY OR CUSTOMER SERVICE INFO IN WITH THE PRODUCT, as I found out when it broke and going to Home Depot for help was a joke. Anyway, I am happy so far with the Malibu and it seems that it has a bigger transformer than the Hampton and the overall construction is better. Just to convince you of how bad the Hampton Bay customer service is try doing a search for them online, you'll see.

I upgraded my older 88-watt Malibu lighting systems (one in the front yard and the other in the back) by replacing the transformers with 300-watt ones and adding brighter floodlights. This was an easy project that only took a couple of hours and the improved illumination is striking. A couple of days after doing this I bought more cable and reused the older systems to illuminate two groundcover beds in the back yard and some smaller plants in the side yards. This provided an inexpensive finishing touch to the entire landscape and resulted in a very professional-looking job.Customer Review: Adequate, but not equal to other Intermatic products

This power pack works fine for the month I've used it intermittently. No surprise with it's basic functions. There are several annoyances that make it unworthy of a higher score. The labels stuck to the cover (inside) keep peeling off and it's not subject to any temperatures extremes, just 50s and 60s here in Arizona. The cover isn't hinged to stay upright and thetimer dial is cheap, as others have noted. The unit buzzes fairly loudly at times because of something with the internals that wants to vibrate. It changes volume from moment to moment.
