This timer has very practical features when used as a light timer. You can program multiple on/off cycle combinations for weekdays, weekends, or different days of the week. Once set, it can work dusk-dawn cycles without resetting for seasons or daylight savings time. It has a small photo battery that powers the memory functions in case of power failure.
Installation was very easy and it worked right off. Because the timer fits a standard light switch box,the display window is small. As a result,the numbers & letters are small and the LCD is not backlit, making it challenging to read.
The instructions are perfectly accurate but could use more explanation to help you understand what's happening. The only operating modes are AUTO, RAND (random), or MAN (manual). You use the SET-UP Mode to input the time and date functions. The PRGM Mode is used to input ON or OFF times. You must create one program for one function (one program to turn on, a separate program to turn off). The RAND mode is the same as AUTO except it varies the on/off times by a few minutes each day to give your home a lived-in look.

I already have one of these switches. I installed it a couple of years ago. I use it to control my lamp post lights in my front yard. Same manufacturer and model. I use it with CFLs with no trouble.
I just installed indoor wall sconces so I've ordered a new switch for those. I'm writing to tell you that the old switch works flawlessly as well as the new one.
Once you install it and go to set it up you realize how flexible the programming is. You may have a little difficulty figuring the programming out at first but once you get it down and adjust the timing to suit your needs you're all set and you don't need to touch it. It automatically adjusts for the daylight savings and the change in the length of the day.
The battery in the first one I installed is still running fine.
This is a great devise. I wish all of the wall timers had the features that this has.

I had an older Intermatic controlling 3 lights on the front of the house. The battery needed replacing and I wanted to switch to CFL's (which it couldn't control) so I started shopping for a replacement. I particularly wanted the "Astronomic" feature. Based on features and past brand experience I settled on this one. Amazon price was reasonable, shipping was prompt, packaging good, installation instructions were understandable. Mine was installed in a 3-way circuit which requires some wiring changes at the second switch. Mfg. recommends programming prior to installation and I concur. LCD screen is small and easier to see when not mounted. After several weeks, operates as described. There is a distinctly audible "click" when the switch operates which is not a problem for me but might annoy some. Definitely happy with this product so far.Customer Review: Excellent In-Wall Timer

I can't say enough good things about this timer. I've had it installed for several months and works fine. If you understand the basics of wiring, you can install it yourself. There are two models of this timer. One will not work with compact florescent bulbs, but this version does work with compact florescent bulbs. I have it turning on and off five outside CF lights next to my garage doors. It is so nice not to have to adjust a timer anymore for the changing seasons. Photo cell timers are a thing of the past. It is great that a battery helps keep the time during a power outage. Fits perfectly in a standard sized wall outlet. Having to replace the odd size battery every once and a while is the only down side I can see with this timer. Overall, I am satisfied with this product. However, the first one I received was DOA. I notified Amazon and they shipped me a new one even before I returned the defective one. Once I received the new one, the installation was straightforward with no problems. The only criticisms I have are that the display is difficult to see after installation and the programming instructions are not clear, but I was able to figure them out. You can mitigate some of the display issues by programming the device before installation. This is the second unit I installed in my house, the first one is over one year ago. Once programmed, I have not had to it touch except to adjust the clock which gained five minutes in a year. You will notice a "click" when it turns on, but this was not objectionable to me.
