Tools and Hardware Reviews of Intermatic ST01AC Heavy Duty In-Wall Timer with Astronomic Feature, AlmondCustomer Review: Happy with product Summary: 4 Stars
I had an older version of an Intermatic Timer installed some 15 years ago to control my outdoor lighting. It finally died and I replaced it with the STO1AC. There were no wiring problems as the colored wires of the new timer matched the wires of the old one. The instructions for programing the new timer defied me and I am a computer person. Technical support guided me through the process and now the lights go on at dusk, off at the time I wanted. It automatically corrected for daylight savings time and during a power failure during recent storms in the Northeast, the battery in the unit preserved the settings. I only have the unit for a few months but so far it works perfectly and hopefully I will not have to ever revisit the programing for season or time changes.
Customer Review: Great wall timer Summary: 5 Stars
This intermatic timer is great. It has many different setting options, including an option that varies the on and off times around sunset so that it looks like you are turning the lights on and off yourself. It is easy to override the timer, you just have to press on the front of the timer panel and the light clicks on and off. There is a digital clock on the front which displays the time. The only downside is that if you are replacing a regular switch with this timer, you will have to buy a wallplate that has a rectangular opening to fit the timer. The good news is that the wallplate is inexpensive and can be found at any home improvement store. No problems in the 2 months I've had this product.
Customer Review: Best In Wall Timer Switch Summary: 5 Stars
This product has worked as advertised for over two years on the original (included) battery while using cfl bulbs.
Yes, this unit has been recalled due to minor shock (CSPC's exact words) while changing the battery, but there have only been 12 reports of such tinges (out of hundreds of thousands of units sold) and no injuries. Intermatic has an web site set up to send a fix to current users, and also has updated the product to include the fix.
As another user said, this is the best in wall timer switch out there. And yes, I did own a Swylite at one point.... I'll take this Intermatic over that product any day of the week.
Don't be afraid to order this.
Customer Review: In wall timer works great Summary: 5 Stars
Purchased ST01AC for the porch light and it works great. Instructions are good, easy to install and program. Even comes with a quick program instruction sheet so you can have it working in minutes. I replaced a single pole switch with it but it can be used with a 3 way switch also. Can be set for the new DST and can even be adjusted. i.e.: I set it to come on at Dusk but I advanced the sunset time 15 minuets so it comes on 15 minuets after sunset (saves about 2 hrs. burn time a week) then turn off at a certain time rather than burn all night and turn off at sunrise, which it can also do. Overall a good switch for the money, I would buy another one and I just might for the driveway lights.
Customer Review: Excellent light timer Summary: 4 Stars
The Intermatic STO1AC Heavy Duty In-Wall timer is very useful for automatically turning on/off lights inside and outside your home. A great feature is its knowledge of dusk and dawn times throughout the year. This allows the timer to be set to turn on a light at dusk and/or turn it off at dawn. There is also much flexibility in the times that may be set - different on/off sequences for different days of the week. Programming is a little tricky at first - an important point is that each on or off time is one independent event in the programming cycle. Note that this timer can be used to control fluorescent lights, a feature not present on all timers.
Overall, a good product.
