Tools and Hardware Reviews of Intermatic TB121C Digital Tabletop Lamp and Appliance Timer

Customer Review: Good for lamps but check your appliance first
Summary: 4 Stars

As someone else mentioned note that this timer supports TWO-PRONG PLUGS ONLY. Its socket has little tabs to try to keep people from stuffing in a grounded plug and this is what they should do because not properly grounding something that expects to be grounded can be dangerous.

Also of note is that it has a backup battery, which is good, I just wanted to mention as an FYI that it is a single LR44 "watch battery" which is very common. They are expensive in blister packs at strip mall chain electronic stores, but you can get them for a fraction of that price here on Amazon and although not US name brand so far the ones I've tried seem okay for the price.

Customer Review: Will buy another one, but...
Summary: 4 Stars

I wanted a timer on a cord, and this is one. It has a clear, larger display. And setting the two on/off times is almost intuitive. (You need not use both settings.) Unit is quiet, unlike some cheap mechanical timers. And I liked the price.

Here's the slight catch. One would expect that you plug your lamp (or whatever) into the timer. Unfortunately, you plug the lamp into the back of the timer's wall plug. This necessitates pulling out any furniture further from the wall so as to not crush the plugs. I can see that Intermatic designed this setup to avoid (among other things) another set of messy wires on your end table.

I will buy another one.

Customer Review: This works great!
Summary: 5 Stars

I read about using a lamp timer to help one get up in the morning (if one tends to ignore the alarm clock like I do). It works great for that. I love that I have programed it to turn the lamp on in the morning and the evening. The lamp I use it on is a cheap $10 torchiere from a big box store and the mechanism to turn it on is broken such that once the darn light is on for more than a few minutes and heats up, you cannot turn it on or off. Using the lamp timer, I can turn on/off the lamp with a touch of the largest button so having it meant I could still get some utility out of the broken lamp:-) I plan on buying another.

Customer Review: Quickly Uses Up 2 LR44 Batteries
Summary: 3 Stars

It seems a shame that Intermatic decided to minimize the initial cost of this product by powering the timer circuit/display with 2 LR44 batteries, which appear to last, at most, 3 months before they need to be replaced. Depending on where you shop, repowering the unit will cost $1 and up, so that you quickly spend equal the cost of the timer in batteries.

A product which included a power supply for the display and digital clock circuit which runs on the 110 V mains power being timed would have been far preferable.

Otherwise, this seems a well designed product.

Customer Review: Just what I wanted
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this timer to turn a light on and off at specific times of the day - a task for which it is extremely well suited.

Only Complaints....
Only accepts two prong plugs.
You have to have an end time for whatever appliance you want turned on and off. You can't just say turn on at 11, you also have to specify when it should turn off (not a big deal for most things but it can be inconvenient)

Unit is easy to use and read. Slightly pricier than other timers but I would definitely recommend it.
