Tools and Hardware Reviews of Malibu 3 Pack Solar Landscape Plastic Flood Light Set with Remote Panel, Textured Black #LZ413

Customer Review: Good for what they are
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased the 3-pack of Mailbu lights for my very small backyard rock garden about 5 months ago. I set one to illuminate a Japanese lantern, another for a red maple, and a third for small juniper tree. I set the solar panel in the sunniest part of the yard, and was able to place the three lights in three generally dispersed spots without any difficult. Fortunately, the wires can be easily hidden in the dirt, or in may case, under the gravel. The lights turn on automatically as soon as the sun goes down and last well into the night (since I've never stayed up beyond 2 or 3 I cannot say how long they last, but they certainly hold a charge for at least 5 hours, even on a cloudy day). They do a more than adequate job, and basically do what I expected: they "spotlight" different elements of the garden. As several reviewers have noted, these are small solar lights; thus, they are not going to light up your entire backyard, or even a medium size (much less large) tree. But, I don't think that they were designed to do that (so it's unfair to criticize the product for not meeting unreasonable expectations). I would recommend these lights for anyone who just needs to spotlight relatively small objects, shrubs, etc. in their yard.

Customer Review: Dim light, LED light quality ghastly
Summary: 2 Stars

I charged this according to the instructions and then set them up in my front yard with two of the three lights lighting my birch tree, then went to pick my wife up at the airport. I never said anything about the lights to her, wanting her honest response - they would be right in front of her when she got out of the car. Her response? Nothing. Nada. Zip. Why? Because even at 10pm in the winter the light was so dim that the neighbor's one lamp on a post next door overpowered the light from these. She never even noticed the Malibu solar lights at all.

On top of that the LED light is a ghastly bluish/purplish color. This seems to be endemic to LED since the low voltage LED fixture I tried, also from Malibu but hooked up to a 300 watt transformer, looked exactly the same only a little brighter. In contrast, the three halogen low voltage lights I tried give off a beautiful, sparkling, warm light (and they are BRIGHT!!!).

Took these solar lights to the far back yard where they light the garden shed. Unfortunately, even though I am trying to light an even smaller area closer up all they are good for is providing enough light so that I can find the switch for the real light.

Customer Review: True No-Bug Buglight Solar Floodlight
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this solar floodlight over a year ago for the sole purpose of providing enough illumination from a distance to get me into my front door without attracting bugs that could enter with me. It worked better than I could imagine. To my surprise, the blue-white LED bulbs don't seem to attract even a single insect. I wish I knew why they don't advertise it that way.
The lights are powered by three Ni-mh AA batteries of 1500 ma power. A full charge from a bright sunny day will still be providing some light come sunrise. A few consecutive cloudy days will reduce them to a dim glow in a few hours. I found that I could easily remove the batteries and refresh them in my own charger. You could also try swapping the batteries with higher power Ni-mh AA's of your own that now come in 2500+ ma power levels.
I recently moved the solar cell charger around a few times to find a sunnier spot and made the mistake of pressing on the panel instead of putting the stake into the ground first. It stopped working. Fortunately, the warranty is for two years, and Intermatic quickly returned a new solar cell and even gave me new batteries, though still just 1500 ma.

Customer Review: SOLAR ENERGY IS HERE TO STAY!
Summary: 5 Stars

JUST BOUGHT A THREE SET & AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE PURCHASE. THREE LED BULBS IN EACH OF THE THREE UNITS. COMES WITH A BIG SOLAR PANEL, ALL THE SCREWS, PLASTIC MOUNTS, & EVEN FOUR PLASTIC GROUND STAKES. REMEMBER THIS IS SOLAR SO THE LIGHTS ARE MOSTLY TO SHINE IN AREAS WHERE IT IS TOTALLY DARK. THE LIGHTS THROW A SOFT HAZY PURPLISH GLOW(ALTHOUGH THEY ADVERTISE IT AS WHITISH BLUE LIGHT). RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX THE 1.2V BATTERIES COME ALREADY CHARGED & LIGHTS READY & BRIGHT. I PUT THIS RIGHT OUTSIDE MY FRONT DOOR SINCE IT IS ALWAYS PITCH BLACK & THE STREET DOES NOT HAVE ANY OVERHEAD LIGHTS TO LIGHT UP THE BLOCK AT ALL. I FIND MY NEIGHBORS DO NOT EVEN TURN ON THEIR PORCH LIGHTS EITHER. SO THESE LIGHTS LOOK BRIGHT SINCE THERE IS NO SOURCE OF LIGHT TO DROWN THEM OUT. MY ADVICE TO POTENTIAL BUYERS IS NOT TO OVER PAY FOR THESE LIGHTS. WAIT AND LOOK FOR A SUPER SALE. PRICE SHOULD RUN IDEALLY BETWEEN $20.00 TO $28.00 TO FEEL THAT THESE LIGHTS ARE WORTH THE ASKING PURCHASE PRICE. I ALSO RECOMMEND THAT YOU BUY TWO SETS OF THREE(TOTAL SIX LIGHTS). SIX LIGHTS PAIRED TOGETHER WILL GET YOU A BETTER LIGHT BRIGHT COVERAGE FOR WHATEVER YOU ARE TRYING TO ACCENT.

Customer Review: the best darn solar flood landscape lights EVER!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought 1 set at Walmart on the clearance shelf very cheap, took them home and set it up to charge in sunlight. The next morning I set them out where I wanted them and I couldn't wait to see how bright they were, and I was very excited that they actually really worked!!!! They were very bright! So I jumped in my truck that morning and went back and bought what they had left (only 2 boxes). I set those up where I wanted them and by that night they were charged up and working. THAT WAS 7 YEARS AGO, AND THEY ARE STILL GOING STRONG!!!!! Well that was until my husband actually dropped a tree branch on the solar panel and broke it ( a very large tree branch, I might add). It didn't brake the solar panel, it broke the black plastic part.
I keep these outside, in direct sunlight, in 80-110 degree, scorching hot sun.
And wouldn't you know that when you find something as great as these are, malibu solar lighting stops making them, I cannot find them anywhere, I thought I found them here, but no luck.
WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU MALIBU LIGHTING,
NOW YOU ARE SELL CRAP.
