This is not a review of the timer/transformer, just a way to use the transformer after the timer stops working. I to have had problems with the timer/transformers for the low voltage landscape lighting. As stated, they are costly, but the part that costs the most is the transformer, the timer is the least expensive part, so what I did when the timer did not work anymore, I bought an outdoor timer,(about $10.00 on Amazon.com)and plugged that timer into the elect. outlet and than set the timer/transformer to the on position and let the new timer turn the transformer on and off. Another option is to get an outdoor remote control and plug the timer/transformer into that so you can turn the transformer on and off from a remote location (inside the house), etc.Customer Review: 88 watt transformer

This transformer was included with the landscape kit I purchased. I have had nothing but problems out of this little device. There are two sets of trippers that are included with the transformer. I have yet to figure out how to get these lights to come on at the appropriate time. I thought the original transformer was defective and I contacted intermatic.com to ask for a replacement. Same situation. You think you are following the instructions and the lights still come on at the wrong times. So, this transformer is not good for me. I am currently looking for one with a photocell that will just turn the lights on at dusk and dawn. Red and black trippers too confusing for me.Customer Review: Poor design, not very good quality

We purchased this item to replace a similar unit in which the timer had failed. What we recently discovered is that the timer does NOT control the power to the transformer. The timer controls the low voltage output to the lights; which may put less stress on the timer, but otherwise is unsatisfactory. The transformer hum is much louder than the previous unit. Our timer is located in the front hall closet which should prolong the life of the unit, but the transformer hums day and night, no matter whether the timer is on or off. This is not only irritating is also not efficient from an energy-saving perspective. We should have paid more for a better model.Customer Review: Needed this Power Pack for Flag Lighting.

I am Very Pleased with My Malibu ML88T 88-watt Power Pack with timer and ground shield. I purchased this item from Amazon.com and it is perfect for my application. You see I needed this 88 watt power pack to power a 50 watt spotlight for My American Flag. I will Fly my Flag every day and night until all Our Troops Come Home. This is the Only Company I could find this 88 watt power pack.

I had this same timer that I purchased in a set that lasted 15 years. When it died, I bought the Malibu Model # 8100-9100-01, 100 watt electronic model that included a photo eye light sensor. The electonic version was absolute junk - the lights were on every afternoon and out by dark, no matter where I placed it and changed the setup. After 6 months, I threw it away and bought this simple mechanical timer. It took 10 minutes to replace and has worked great. Sometimes simpler is better.
