Tools and Hardware Reviews of Ionic Pro CA200T Twin Pack Compact Ionic Air Purifier with Bonus Car IonizersCustomer Review: Wowie -- Better than the "other" Ionic Summary: 5 Stars
Yes, the machines just arrived today. And yes, as always, delivery was on time, well packed, and everything in order, thanks to Amazon. Easy set up, and shazzam the air purifiers were on the grid and making all breathing clean, with little noise. As in none. As in quiet. And, if in the long run they work like the 'other' brand, I'll have less allergies. And, whatever was stinking up the joint won't smell so bad.
But, having owned the "other" ionic air purifiers in the past, I can say with total glee, these are better, less expensive, and more efficient, all at less than half what I paid for the original 'other' ones, which are now broken -- thanks mostly to the 'move from hell gone bad'. That is, the older ones worked well, but didn't survive the move, no fault of the 'other' ionic cleaner's makers. My piano was dropped 8 times on the way to my flat for goodness sake, so he fact the filter machines broke is certainly not a manufacturing defect. The air purifiers didn't stand a chance. But the new Ionic Pro's are more silent that the older 'other' ones. And they work. They work well.
Now, on to the good stuff. The air cleaners have already captured a wealth (?!?) of gunk. Not ready for cleaning the blades yet, but they are actually reducing the dust, crud and other assorted airborne stuff that I'd otherwise be breathing. And, having been blessed, or cursed, with the auditory acuity of a fruit-bat, the machines are quiet and that is delightful. Lack of noise is very important to me as I treasure my hearing and need to have quiet to work, think and sleep.
These are black, so I am presuming they won't show much in terms of dirt. Plus, they are functionally easy to place a foot from a wall, the recommended distance. This means that I'll not trip over them and I get clean air in relative silence.
They are cute, in a R2D2 kind of way. They also don't interfere with the decor. Call me eclectic, but mostly call me a decorator with asipirations to a sort of English country house meets the twenty-first century. Being black, these little gizmos take little notice from the eyes.
Did I mention they are quiet?
And, the best thing about these air purifiers? They do exactly what they are supposed to do, and they do it well in almost silence.
Purchase these units with security that you won't be wasting your money.
As for the car air purifiers, I cannot say. I don't drive, so these will be gifted to people that might want them. Believe me, Ill also be checking that those that receive, will use them. So, bottom line is this. Go ahead, purchase and breathe deeply. You'll have less chance of inhaling whatever you don't want to breathe in. And that, as they say, is a good thing. And they are really, truly quiet.
Customer Review: BEWARE OF EXPERATION DATE!!! Summary: 2 Stars
Ok,
These Ionic purifiers do work; however, mine stopped working after a year and here's what the Tech Support representative told me over the phone:
Rep: "Sir, how long have you owned the twin purifiers?"
Me: "about a year and a few months now."
Rep: "What is the problem?"
Me: "A RED light comes on right after I turn them on but the metal filters are clean!" Note: red light means filters must be cleaned.
Rep: "Ok, sir. What you need to do is send them both in and we'll replace them"
Me: "How much will this cost me?"
Rep: "$50 for you to send them and another $30-$50 for us to send them back"
Me: "What is the reason why they BOTH stopped working?"
Rep: "Well, after 1 year, use or no use, the wires inside the purifiers die and need replacing"
Me: "So, every year or so I must spend another $100 to get these working again?!!!"
Rep: "Yes, Sir. That's correct."
Me: "Ok. Well forget it. I will go on and give my review on these items right now."
As these Ionic purifiers seem to do a good job cleaning the air "without the consumer having to keep buying filters", the truth is that you must continue buying them every year for $100. According to the rep they give you news ones; they do not fix them or replace the dead wires.
I, for one, will not purchase this brand again. I do not hold a grudge against the people who sold them to me or the makers, but you as a consumer who wants things to last and work properly, beware of this twitch/deffect/malfunction or whatever you may want to label it.
Do your research for a real good filter. I am off to that search right now.
Customer Review: Buyer Beware--Obsolete within one year Summary: 2 Stars
I bought these February 2008 for my girlfriend and her daughter. They have allergies plus cats, and needed some help cleaning the air in their home. The products worked great for about 8 months or so. The units started acting up after that; even after cleaning the blades the units would immediately go into a "clean" indicator mode and not work. I Googled for an answer to the problem and it seems that the issue is a common one. I also saw that people called Ionic for customer service would be told that they would receive a call back from a technician but never were called back.
I called Ionic on a Friday and was told I would receive a call back shortly. By Tuesday afternoon I had not heard from them. Wednesday I called back and told them that I had not received a call back. They took my number and I did later receive a call. I spoke to Joe who should be working for Dell tech support based on his strong Indian accent. After giving him a brief description of the problem he asked if I could fax proof of the purchase date. I said yes. He said that the units would be replaced, but that I would have to ship the old units back at my expense, and then pay $29.95 PER UNIT shipping for the new warranty replacements. I estimated that I would spend $90-$100 and a lot of time to get new units that (according to the message boards on Google) would also fail shortly, and I would again be back talking to Joe.
As of now I have not returned the units nor will I.
The units DID work well, were attractive and small, quiet (except for some sizzling--but that told me that they were working), and were easy to clean.
As I said...BUYER BEWARE---you chose.
Customer Review: Love them! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought these to replace the same model that I finally killed after years of hard work. I have asthma, and I keep one of these in my bedroom, and one in each room with an exterior door. When the air outside is making me sneeze my head off, I always look forward to getting back to my "bubble" of clean air back home. (FYI- Just getting one huge air purifier is pointless, because none of them can clean the air through walls.)
You will want to keep it away from drapes or fabrics that you can not easily wash because this type of air cleaner causes things like dust and pet dander to clump and fall to the ground. This is most obvious within a few feet of the unit. It's not a huge problem, just something to keep in mind. They are very easy to clean and you never have to buy replacement filters. I keep mine running 24/7. They use very little energy and are completely silent if they are kept clean. Some other reviews have mentioned the units making noise after only a few days. This will happen if the air in your home is rather dust filled when you first start using them. Just clean them a couple of times, and the air quality should improve in your home. Also, in general, if you have breathing problems, you should check your house for air leaks to help stop irritants from penetrating your home in the first place. No air purifier on the market can compete with drafts and open windows. ( My friend Lisa complained about hers, but regularly had a window open. ) DUH!
Oh, the car ones are completely useless for the same reason. Auto AC's are always bringing in fresh air, even on the recycle setting. That little thing can't keep up with the constant influx of polluted air.
Customer Review: Good? Summary: 3 Stars
I'm going to have to agree on a lot of the other reviews about this comment. When I first received this product, I immediately placed one in the living room and my bedroom. At that time, my roommate and I were coughing uncontrollably, unaware that this was flu season and not your common allergies. So for the first month of having this product I couldn't really tell if it was indeed cleaning the air in our apartment. Sometimes I sense that the air does in fact smell cleaner, but then I realize that my roommate had opened up some of the windows to let some fresh air in. :P
Another thing I need to point out is that our living room is well over 250 feet square in area. So that could be why I can't really tell if this product is working in the living room. As for my bedroom, I believe my bedroom is about 250 square feet in area, but again....I can't really tell if it's working. In fact, I see that my furniture collects more dust than before. I have to dust every week!
I use to live with another roommate who had a similar product like this one but just in a full size and everything I walked into their apartment I could really feel that the apartment air was truly clean. Maybe I'm comparing my product to theirs too much. ;P
To get to the point of this review, I had this product for 2 whole months now and I'm still questioning if it works as they say it works. I'm going to just keep it on HI for the next month or so and see if I sense any changes and at that time I'll re-edit my review.
In any case, two medium size air purifiers for $150.00 is not too bad so I can't really complain. :)
