Tools and Hardware Reviews of J. Terence Thompson 2851-1B Large 37-by-17-1/2-by-14-Inch Wheeled Storage TrunkCustomer Review: Don't bother, look elsewhere Summary: 1 StarsI received this box tonight and was disappointed. The plastic is warped so that I cannot close the trunk top properly. Also, when I finally did get the damn thing to line up properly and clasp, I found the clasps to be loose to the point where they will fall off. The clasps are not tight at all. Perhaps this is just the one I received.
For the most part, this box will do what I need it to do for now however, I will be looking around for a better one.
All in all, look for something in steel if you're serious about storing AND toting around anything of value. I use mine for photography lighting and backdrop equipment. I would store my tools in there but not until I find something for all of the other stuff.
Customer Review: Great! Used it for mailing stuff Summary: 5 StarsMy Son in in the Navy. He transferred and left a lot of stuff for me "to mail to him when I could". A lot of stuff. I bought this footlocker and filled it with 56 lbs of stuff. Put on a padlock and just in case used black duct tape to help seal it shut on the ends...cost me 61 dollars SAM at the USPS. He got it and intends to keep the case. I bought another and keep in my trunk for an organizer...groceries, car gear, you name it. I have since bought another for miscellaneous storage in the garage. Good product and good enough. Why pay for more?
Customer Review: Only took shipper 2x to break it. Summary: 3 StarsThis trunk is great for storage but the shipper broke it on the second leg of a three-leg U.S. tour. I'll epoxy the two broken corners and use it in the garage, but it's certainly not a tough enough case for shipping.
Customer Review: With limitations but still useful.... Summary: 4 StarsI bought these boxes in Taji, Iraq at the armed forces exchange for around 25USD. They are built relatively well. I had to reinforce the rivets (by replacing a few of them). The dimensions are a bit deceiving but, are still large enough for the purpose I used them for.
I packed them with my belongings for shipment back and forth from Iraq to my home in the States. It cost about 45USD for shpment at a weight of around 40 lbs with the US Postal service. For mailing I drilled two additional holes (one in either end) for TSA locks during shipment. I also sealed the lid for shipment using duct tape. They arrived intact and my belongings secured (even glass picture frames).
While I was in Iraq I used the trunk for storage(under my bunk). Now that my career as a contract firfighter is over I will use them as storage lockers. Maybe even camping gear storage and transportation.
At the price offfered they are more spendy than my purchase price but, I would still recommend them even with the limitations.
Customer Review: Good, light-duty footlocker for the money Summary: 4 StarsFor under %40, this footlocker was a good buy. The size inside is ample, and the rolling wheels are "beefed up" for durability over rough terrain such as blacktop and gravel driveways. Weaknesses in construction are "light-duty" hinges for the lid, and "light-duty" plastic construction for the faces of the footlocker.
By "light-duty" plastic construction, I mean that you would not want to subject the closed footlocker to excess weight (say over thirty pounds). Doing so would bend the shape of the footlocker, possibly even cracking or breaking the plastic sides or lid. Also, the hinge looks like it would snap if the lid were 'flopped-back' quickly or once too-often. This is a lighter-than-average footlocker, and would not be what you would want for shipping overseas, but kept in the bed of your truck for camping purposes, or storing clothing in your attic, it would be ideal. I plan to camp with mine, so I think I made a good purchase!
