Tools and Hardware Reviews of J. Terence Thompson 2851-1B Large 37-by-17-1/2-by-14-Inch Wheeled Storage TrunkCustomer Review: Great! Used it for mailing stuff Summary: 5 Stars
My Son in in the Navy. He transferred and left a lot of stuff for me "to mail to him when I could". A lot of stuff. I bought this footlocker and filled it with 56 lbs of stuff. Put on a padlock and just in case used black duct tape to help seal it shut on the ends...cost me 61 dollars SAM at the USPS. He got it and intends to keep the case. I bought another and keep in my trunk for an organizer...groceries, car gear, you name it. I have since bought another for miscellaneous storage in the garage. Good product and good enough. Why pay for more?
Customer Review: A great way to haul your stuff Summary: 5 Stars
Driving a small 2-seat roadster on long trips sometimes presents a challenge in carrying everything you need. This wheeled trunk and a receiver hitch cargo rack make it easy. This is a lightweight but sturdy trunk with a good capacity. While not advertised as waterproof, it will keep your things dry, even in the rain. The wheels (like those on inline skates) work well and make getting the trunk from one place to another esay to do, even when fully loaded. Mine has been from Texas to Colorado to Kansas to South Carolina and back again, still rolling.
Customer Review: A good portable trunk Summary: 4 Stars
Not bad here. It's a little flimsy (it's a lighter gauze plastic), but it gets the job done. I use this when travelling and teaching remote nuring continuing education classes (www.BEMETweb.com) and it's nice that it has wheels. It is lockable with a padlock (not included). I have had approx 50-65 pounds in it and it holds up well. The wheels are nice, but it doesn't have a pull handle; you kind of have to lean over a bit to pull it by the lip. I'd give it 5 stars if it had a handle and was a little heavier thickness plastic.
Customer Review: Doesn't meet airline size for checked baggage - won't stay closed Summary: 1 Stars
This trunk is unsatisfactory for shipping as checked baggage on an airline. First the catches will not keep it closed - I had to use a strap to keep all contents from being dumped everywhere. Second, it's oversize and I had to pay $49 extra (over and above the normal checked bag fee) to have it shipped. It's dimensions are 68.5 inches exceeding the 62 inch limit for checked baggage. I do not recommend this box for shipping on an airline. Definitely an inferior product. I'm sorry I bought the two I did.
Customer Review: Hardware just too flimsy Summary: 2 Stars
The plastic is solid, size is good, and price is right, and if you don't anticipate hauling or shipping this thing much it will get the job done at a good price. But if you intend to check it on an airplane or bus or haul around (we took it on a week-long canoe trip where it was hauled from point-to-point by a luggage service) then it just simply won't stand up to the stress. VERY lightweight closing hardware started to pull away within a few days.
Recommended for STORAGE only.
