The John Sterling Fast Mount brackets and standards are amazingly strong and easy to install. There is no other shelf system that I know of that has available support bars under the brackets. These little gems allow the shelves to carry an incredible amount of weight compared to other brands. I used 6 uprights (standards) on an 8' tall x 14' long garage wall and enough brackets to store well over 2000 pounds of lumber.
The downside, though slight, is that these supports might interfere with boxes placed on the next shelf below if the boxes are tall. If you are trying to fit as many shelves as possible for storage of boxes, it is relatively easy to work around this issue by choosing box sizes that will fit in between the brackets. Sterling also makes brackets with no support bar that can be used interchangeably where necessary or you can drill-out and remove the existing bracket.
The Sterling hardware is heavy gauge and galvanized so you need not worry about rust and they don't show scratches. The entire Sterling system is very well thought out and the bracket sizes are exactly what is necessary for serious vertical storage. I use 3" Spax screws (square drive) to anchor the standards to the wall and 4" spax screws in the very top hole to ensure there is no way the screws will pull out even if I put more weight on the shelf than I had planned. There are few products that cannot be improved upon and this is one of them. I've used the system in three garages and a shed over the last 10 years and will not use anything else in the future.
