Tools and Hardware Reviews of Jiffy Steamer J-2000 Residential Series 1300-Watt Garment SteamerCustomer Review: Great Steamer Overall Summary: 5 Stars
Have to say that overall, the performance on this machine has been stellar. I bought it from Amazon nearly five years ago now, and have had few problems with it. About two years ago, I had to replace the water reservoir (believe it was ~$25) because it had a crack in it. About a week ago, I noticed the steamer is leaking from the bottom. I thought it was the water reservoir again, so I removed it and put it in the kitchen. Next day, I come back and notice there's a new puddle under the steamer. Apparently, it's leaking from somewhere underneath. Not sure if I can fix it, so if I can't, I'll buy another Jiffy.
Now performance- this thing will steam just about anything (I use it for clothes almost exclusively) that you would wear to work (business casual, suits, etc.). The only problems I've ever had getting wrinkles out of were high cotton content garments (same garments that would be tough to iron!!!). I literally haven't touched my iron once since the day the steamer showed up though. I'm ok with that, since that's the reason I bought it in the first place!
Bottom line is that this steamer works great with most all clothing, particularly synthetics and blends. Good luck!
Customer Review: An absolute MUST BUY! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my mother as a Christmas gift through Amazon. 7 months later and I cannot imagine how we lived without it. This is the most amazing device ever, and Jiffy really made a fantastic product here. Yes, the looks aren't great, but who buys a steamer because it looks good?? I bought it because the only thing I wanted to LOOK GOOD were the clothes!! This machine out-performs all the competition, hands down. It heats up VERY QUICKLY, and no spitting of water or any of that nonsense. I steam my clothes in 4 minutes ever morning before leaving for work. My mom uses it to steam her wardrobe, yes I've caught her spending an hour just steaming away happily, thrilled she can get her clothes looking store-bought perfect with a wave of the steam head. I've even used it to steam out the wrinkles on a fabric purse!! Great on "delicate" fabrics that would never have before dared seen an iron. I have gotten the most impressively wrinkled item wrinkle-free with this steamer! Don't go with the cheaper products out there, you will save money, hassle and time by going with the best the first time around! My mother voted this the Best Christmas Gift Ever.
Customer Review: Basically perfect Summary: 5 Stars
This machine rocks!! I've had it about 2 months, and it's gotten tons of use already. I make costumes as a hobby, and needed a better quality steamer than the cheapie I had. This baby is it! It heats up literally in seconds, has a large water reservoir, and just performs like a workhorse. I have steamed costumes made out of machine-washed and very wrinkled prom dresses, wedding gowns, silk, wool... everything. Plus my own business and casual clothes. I have some delicate fabrics in my career wardrobe, and this steamer is safe on all of them. The steamer is more effective than an iron on most things, but doesn't replace the iron for some things, such as creases on slacks, linen, dinner napkins. It's also kind of hard to steam sleeves on blouses and shirts. The trick to steaming is definitely steaming from the underside of the garment. But watch out - it gets really hot under there! Also, you need to hold the handle "upward", versus holding it down toward the ground. If the steamer suddenly stops steaming, either you're holding the handle too low, or you're out of water. If you're careful, and once you get a little experience with it, you'll love it.
Customer Review: Disappointed with Amazon.com return policy Summary: 1 Stars
After reading rave reviews on amazon.com I purchased the Jiffy Steamer J-2000 Residential garment steamer on August 25, 2010 and gave it as a gift on September 10th.
This was an anniversary gift to my daughter and her husband. They work long hours everyday with over an hour commuting time to and from New York City. The steamer made their lives easier and they were thrilled with the gift.
I visited recently and found the steamer in their garage. It seems the machine had been leaking for some time but they didn't want to tell me for fear of hurting my feelings. They used it for less than 30 days.
I just checked amazon.com about returning the steamer and it states my return period ended on September 27th. You mean to tell me I had only 30 days to return if something went wrong? That is outrageous and would not happen if I had purchased it at a regular store in my area.
I am very disappointed in my purchase and amazon.com's return policy. I seriously doubt that I will purchase anymore products from amazon.com in the future. Sometimes brick and mortar stores are the best way to shop.
Customer Review: Almost returned it.... glad I didn't! Summary: 4 Stars
After a month and a half of use, I must say that I'm quite happy with the Jiffy Steamer. It doesn't completely replace my iron for certain items (i.e., collared shirts that require the collar to be pressed), but it does a very good job on almost everything else.
I, like a few other reviewers, am still burning my thumbs every now and then as I try to push the garment up against the board, but I figure that'll happen less over time.
I almost returned this because I was having a very difficult time getting satisfactory results (for the price paid). Basically, hanging garments on the steamer's hanging pole didn't work well for me. I then tried pressing items up against a door with slightly better results. Then, I happened upon a review for the Jiffy Steamer 0892A Steamboard. We took the plunge and purchased one (shop around)... and this made all the difference. It's like a hanging ironing board and was well worth the price paid (like I said, shop around!)
All in all, I'm happy with the steamer and would recommend it. I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could (but not 5)... which is why I gave it a 4.
