Tools and Hardware Reviews of Jiffy Steamer J-2000 Residential Series 1300-Watt Garment SteamerCustomer Review: Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
Being frustrated with the never ending laundry to be ironed, I finally decided that it was time to try a steamer. I reviewed many of them and this one seemed to be the best. It said it was 5x quicker than ironing, and I know you can't believe everything you read, but I figured it had to be somewhat better or at least I hoped it was! It took a coulple trys to get used to it but it is a huge time-saver! I can get a double closet of clothes done in about an 1/2-1 hr depending on the items. A couple of down falls so far, is that my husband's pants touch the floor when hanging on the pole (he's 6'4") which makes it very difficult to steam the bottom of them- maybe the sell a longer pole? Also, it's difficult to steam ruffles, but I have a feeling that's where the steam board would come in handy, either that or holding on to them with a clothes pin so you don't burn your fingers. I'm able to steam creases easily by holding the area taught, which some people have said you're not able to do. The hose does get hot, so watch children around it. Overall, I'm very happy with it!
Customer Review: Steamer does not remove wrinkles Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this item based upon all of the positive reviews but I am very disappointed in this steamer. I purchased it to steam my bed sheets that I used to iron. I was very hopeful when I removed the unit from the box, I was impressed with the easy assembly and quality. Plugged it in, it quickly produced steam but I noticed there was no way to control the amount of steam coming from the head. I had also purchased their steaming board and began to steam the pillow cases. After 15 minutes, the cases were still wrinkled, then I noticed the head would spit out water onto whatever I was steaming. I even tried just hanging the pillow cases on the steamer and still did not achieve the results I expected.
Bottom line is this unit did not do as good a job as an iron and I think I could have spent hours trying to steam a pillow case and it would still not have gotten the wrinkles out. It seems that there is simply not enough steam coming out to get rid of wrinkles. I am returning the unit and will purchase from another company as I have lost faith in Jiffy.
Customer Review: One of the worst purchases!!! Summary: 1 Stars
This product will NOT replace your iron if you are used to the crisp "iron look". I really wanted it to work because the shirt ironing takes a lot of time and according to Jiffy Steamer's description I would save time AND money for dry cleaning. Well, first of all, I did not save time at all, it actually took me longer and the shirt (100% cotton) was still covered with little wrinkles everywhere (just like when you iron on a very low setting). Second, I burned myself several times on the metal part of the hose, which gets extremely hot and on the steam itself (honestly, I think they have to include some sort of gloves and insulate the hose). Third, this product is leaking. While I was steaming the shirt, I moved the steamer closer and there was water on my hard wood floors! Also, after I was done with the steaming and trying to disassemble the steamer, water poured from everywhere, the hose as well as the metal bin. All in all, I would have never purchased this product, have I known that it has so many issues and on top of that I have to pay for return shipping!!!
Customer Review: Poor Looks; Outstanding Craftsmanship Summary: 5 Stars
I'll make it simple: If you are looking for a home-edition garment steamer, your top 2 choices in the marketplace will likely be the Jiffy 2000 and the Rowenta 8100.
I tested both for 10 hours; on a 1 to 10 scale:
Jiffy (Looks = 6; Engineering = 10; Handling = 9; Craftsmanship = 10).
It looks like a mop bucket on wheels but it performs like a jet engine; every part of this machine from the plate at the bottom of the unit to the steam handle is built for rugged usage.
Rowenta (Looks = 10; Engineering = 5; Handling = 7; Crafsmanship = 4).
It looks like a UFO but performs like a Pinto with much less steaming power; it is built as a toddler's toy having most parts made with inexpensive plastic including the watertank base and valve: pull the machine a single foot OR tilt it a mere 1 inch and you will experience a slow-building cascade.
Buy the Rowenta 8100 as a decorative piece to make your closet look good.
Buy the Jiffy 2000 as a garment steamer to make your clothes look good.
Customer Review: Upgrade to a Jiffy, it is worth it...... Summary: 5 Stars
I had a less expensive model that I got from QVC, I thought it was ok, I used it for 5 years until it quit working. What I didn't know was how much better steaming can be with a quality product. This steamer is well made, goes together easily and has quality fittings. It has an on /off that you can click with your toe..easy..The steam comes out in a fine mist with no dripping.
With the steamer the wrinkles are gone in a fraction of the time it took me to iron, and it is fun. I guess it is fun because it gets a tedious job done so fast and my clothes look good. It is especially good for cotton slacks..even T-shirts look smooth and finished.
Summary--well made, good results,saves time,best I have used.
P.S. Steaming tips..I suspended a clothes bar in my basement which places the clothes at eye level. This way I can reach up and steam and pull the items to smooth them as I go. It also worked well to use an over the door hook to hang the clothes.
Skirt hangers are good for steaming pants/slacks/jeans.
