Tools and Hardware Reviews of Jiffy Steamer J-4000 Pro-Line Commercial Garment SteamerCustomer Review: The J-2000 may have been more useful Summary: 4 Stars
This steamer is very effective and simple to operate. I use it to get wrinkles out of delicate sweaters and dresses. It gets the most egregious wrinkles out of cotton, but you shouldn't expect a "pressed" look from even the best steamer. Protect your skin while using.
However, I strongly feel that it is just too much for home use. It's HUGE, probably 3-4 times as big as the J-2000 and it is not easy to fill and empty (which you should do to prevent rusting). I'm pretty petite and lifting the thing and then turning on its side or upside down to empty it is hard for me. I'm considering getting a siphon to help me with the job. The J-2000 has a little jug that you can simply remove. Not to mention that I've spied at least a couple of stores at the mall (french connection and J Jill) actually use the J-2000.... If it's good enough for them, it would probably have been good enough for my purposes.
It's too late for me to make a change now, but I would have gone with the J-2000 had I realized these things.
Customer Review: A Waste of Time Summary: 1 Stars
After reading all the great reviews on this steamer I was anxious to try it when it arrived. First I tried to tackle one of my hardest shirts to iron, a white slightly heavy, causal button down. Its so hard to get this shirt looking good that I'm tempted to throw it out every time I find it in the laundry basket. If the steamer could handle this it could handle anything I owned!
Well, it didn't handle it. I spent twice as long steaming it as I would ironing it and it didn't look any better. OK, maybe that's not a good place to start. I grabbed some wrinkle-free shirts. I always leave my dress shirts hanging to dry. I thought for sure one of these would come out great! No. Again, it took forever and still looked bad.
Stick with an iron. I am going to write the company. After what I spent on this thing it should do a much better job. Maybe its useful to steam things you can't iron but if you think its going to help with weekly laundry think again.
Customer Review: Great Machine, worth every penny!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I just got this machine. It's a gift from my husband, he says it's an wedding aniversary gift...of course I can't wear it on but it really helps with my aching shoulders. I have arthiris on my neck and shoulders and regular ironing cause me a lot of pain and discomfort. The assemble was very easy, and does not damp my clothes like another two steamer we had in the pass. The first one we had for a couple of years until star falling apart. My husband got me another one call Home Touch and did not last one year, the same thing broke right away. Then I decide we should invest a little more money and after I read all the reviews I decide for this one. It's quite, and I don't have to fill it every five minutes like the other two. My only complaint about this machine is the pole is too short, but nothing is perfect in this world. I really recommend this machine, it's worth every penny.
Customer Review: Sad Summary: 4 Stars
Im sad because of what I did. I had this steamer for almost 4 years and it worked perfectly for 3 years and 10 months. It had a powerful smooth flow of steam, no water sputtering, I actually enjoyed using it. I've had 3 steamers before this one and there's no comparison. Well, I took it for granted because of how well it was built. I ran Arizona tap water thru it, the hardest water in the world i think. I never cleaned it. Never ran vinegar thru it, nothing. When I think about it, I'm shocked it lasted that long with all the hard water deposits that were in there. I believe it would have lasted 10yrs with proper care. I will be purchasing another one, won't make the same mistake twice. The only reason I did'nt give it 5 stars is the pole could be higher. Good solid American made product. Brass connections, not plastic.
Customer Review: be cautioned on which hose length model you get! Summary: 4 Stars
I'm looking into getting a steamer and have been eyeing this J-4000I model, and I've seen it with a 5.5' hose and 7.5' hose (for draperies). I haven't purchased either yet, but I thought I'd let everyone know that depending on what you're really buying this steamer for (garments or drapery...or like me, BOTH) the "7.5' Drapery Hose is not for garments which use 5.5' Hoses. The longer drapery hose is not as efficient in steam production required for taking wrinkles out of garments." So... that said, I hope it helps you make the right decision as to which hose length to get. I think I'll probably get the 5.5' hose length model because I'm shooting for whatever steaming process is most powerful/effective. Though I have 96" draperies at home, I'd rather have more steaming power than hose length. Hope this helps!
