I used this thermometer to make homemade yogurt. I had to clip the thermometer to the side of the pot and heat milk to 185 degrees, then cool it to 110 by putting the pot into a cool water bath. After the third time of using it, the thin glass that covers the bottom of the thermometer broke apart while it was in the milk, ruining the batch. I don't know if mine was defected or if the design of this particular model is just extremely fragile, but either way I certainly wouldn't buy another. I do not recommend this brand or design candy thermometer.
