I'm not sure what some of the other reviewers were expecting for this price but this is basically an alternative to the curtain type screens that you stick up in a door frame and for me, it is less cumbersome.
This was a great solution as I live in an apartment complex where the owners don't allow the more permanent type to be mounted. Although it looks more like a traditional screen door than the black curtain type screens, don't expect something like a rigid, framed screen door for this price. This is a fold up door; the frame is a springy metal band with just enough tension so that it will spring into shape and yet can be folded back up easily so yes, it is kind of floppy but it is serving its purpose. The bright, white material used for the screen is much nicer to my eye than the black material used for the curtain types and gives a clearer view to the outdoors.
The corners of the door are curved because the frame is made of the aforementioned springy band that makes it foldable so if the porch or step in front of your door is flush with the threshold, there will be a small gap on each of the bottom corners. I didn't see this as a big issue; it's easily remedied if you don't mind placing something small in the corners of the threshold. If there were a slight step up to the door, it would most likely completely cover the entrance.
Mounting this is fairly simple, just unfold the door (it will spring into shape and be folded in half) then pop on the two small plastic supports on either side of the fold to make it stand up. Next, do a 'dry fit' to determine where the Velcro strip should be then, simply peel and stick to a clean door frame for best adhesion.
The only thing that I didn't like were the two large hooks that are to be screwed into the inside of the door frame. These are to hook the metal rings on to keep the door closed. They are awkward to use when hooking the rings from the outside (the door flexes so that you can do this and springs right back) and I didn't like the idea of having hooks jut out for me to get hung up or scratched on but this was a very simple fix. I replaced each hook with a small, rounded head screw that I only needed to leave sticking out about 1/4 inch. This made the hooking and unhooking of the metal rings much easier, no worries about scratches and looked better than the large hooks.
I've had this up for just under six months and, despite the light weight and foldability, it has help up well; however, I don't think the screening material will take a lot of abuse so sharp objects or pet's claws could possibly tear it and if the door get a lot of not so gentle traffic, I would opt for a traditional screen or storm door. This also will not serve as a barrier to keep a child or pet inside due to its flexible frame.
Overall, it serves my purpose well and for just under $16 you can't beat it if you only need something that will hold up to light traffic for a summer or two.
