Tools and Hardware Reviews of Kawasaki 840051 Black 19.2-Volt 20-Piece Cordless Drill KitCustomer Review: Seriously?! Come on people, cut Kawasaki some slack! Summary: 5 Stars
I'd sure like to hear more from folks who LIKE their Kawasaki 19.2v cordless drill! When I learned Kawasaki ventured into the power tool business, I was skeptical too, but their 19.2v drill and 19.2v circular saw had all the features I had been spoiled with on better known and WAY more expensive drills I've owned and used in the past (Milwaukee, Dewalt, Craftsman, Ryobi, etc.)
I bought these two tools (drill and saw kits) from Sam's Club back in late 2006 I think it was, and have used them extensively in both my home, and on literally hundreds of job-sites in construction, electrical, remodeling and landscaping, and I gotta tell you, I've been impressed with Kawasaki's foray into the power tool industry! They make very good, reliable, tough and durable drills and circular saws (I know that much at least)! The drill came with TWO batteries, a charger, a wide variety of driver & drill bits and a carry case. The saw came with 2 batteries as well (I think) with a charger, multiple blades and a spacer/guide attachment. The batteries have held up very well over the last few years, not one of them have proven the least bit unreliable!
I have dropped this drill more times that I care to admit, whether falling out of it's holster or hook on my tool bags, or just flat falling off a ladder, with significant impact each time, and each time it held up well and kept right on rolling (no bent shaft, no cracked case, no busted battery packs, etc). Finally, earlier this summer (2010) I dropped it on a railroad tie walkway I built for a customer while fastening some wrought-iron fencing, and alas it finally cracked the drill's outer case. Well I thought I could just tape it and keep going, but the torque of the motor proved too much for the compromised case, and the gears won't engage now. Still, I thought that was a pretty good run for a $50 drill with more torque and power than any of my older drills. Lasted nearly four years with absolutely ZERO down time, and 100% reliability (that is until it's last "humpty-dumpty")! I've spent four times that on other drills that didn't last HALF that long, and even the batteries gave out after only a year! I've never had a drill last this long for all the trials I put it through!
Rest assured, I just purchased my SECOND Kawasaki 19.2v Cordless Drill package, not 20 minutes ago online for about $51 (with free shipping), and now I will have 2 more brand-new batteries (along with the four I already have that still work like new!) and all new tips and bits as well! I feel pretty well content that this one will last just as long (maybe longer if I stop dropping the dad-gummed thing!!)
Hey Kawasaki, nice job! How 'bout I do a commercial for you and your 19.2v series power tools? Could use a nice new Kawasaki hammer-drill in exchange!!
p.s. And no, I don't work for Kawasaki... maybe I should though!!
