Tools and Hardware Reviews of Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk Plug-In Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Battery Backup and Digital DisplayCustomer Review: Will not Save your life...doesn't work Summary: 1 Stars
I have a newer Knighthawk and a very old plugin carbon monoxide detector. We had high winds and power went off last night. When the power came on my old unit sounded the alarm. I took it downstairs where furnace, water heater and Knighthawk were. Knighthawk was registering 0, ppm. Older unit sounded alarm when I plugged it in. I could smell gas from water heater, the pilot had blown out. Shutdown gas and aired out house, old unit quit sounding the alarm once the house was aired out.
This is scary, if the power had not come on the Knighthawk with it battery backup would never have sounded the alert and I might have died. There should be a way to test these alarms accuracy, pushing a test button does nothing. Does anyone know of Carbon Monoxide alarm that is not made in CHINA?
Customer Review: saved our lives! Summary: 5 Stars
We went to my inlaws for the holiday weekend. The whole family was there including my son and my nephew (both 1). We were just sitting around together when the alarm went off. The smoke detector goes off randomly sometimes so when we heard the alarm we didnt care much but saw it was actually the carbon monoxide detector and called the police this was the first time in a long time that it read anything and it was at 65! When the fire department came there the determined where the problem was and told us that we were very lucky to have a detector in our house or we all could of been very very sick or WORSE! The fireman said that it was a very good detector and he recommends them. now that we are back home (we dont have one) I am Definitely going to buy several for my house.
Customer Review: Kidde CO detector Summary: 3 Stars
The CO detector basically works well. I like the digital readout and the fact that low levels of carbon monoxide (CO) can be detected and read by pushing the display button. High, dangerous levels are shown automatically.
A negative is that the detector suffers from being vulnerable to radio frequency interference. I'm a ham radio operator who occasionally transmits at high, 500 to 1000 watt power levels. When transmitting, the detector is set off. Kidde offers no solutions except to say that it shouldn't be happening.
Keep in mind that all of these detectors have a 5 year life. A undocumented "feature" is that they will go dead approximately 5 years after first being plugging in. The detecting device's life is for 5 years.
Customer Review: I paid how much for this? Summary: 1 Stars
What a complete waste of money. It wasn't set up two months when the battery went dead, causing the alarm to chirp about once a week. Yes, folks, a carbon monoxide detector that needs both an electrical current AND a battery to run. Yet, according to the information, the battery is supposedly for backup. I took the bad battery out - this caused the alarm to scream at me (and it's very loud too). Put a new battery in - the the alarm still screamed at me. I can't even use the thing now because all it does is scream, telling me the brand new battery is low. A very frustrating, obviously defective piece of equipment which isn't worth anywhere near the amount of money I paid for it. I highly recommend looking elsewhere for a carbon monoxide detector.
Customer Review: Kidde Nighthawk Carbon Monoxide Alarm Summary: 5 Stars
The Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk alarm is a good device to keep tabs on the presence of carbon monoxide. I had purchased this model alarm elsewhere in January 2001. It is plugged into a 120 volt outlet. It has a chord attached which allows it to be placed on top of a piece of furniture or attached to the wall. It has battery back-up to keep it working in a power failure. The digital read-out not only shows if an unsafe level of CO is present, but keeps track of lesser levels over time. The first alarm lasted for ten years. I shopped Amazon.com for a same model replacement, which I purchased and am now using. I was very satisfied with the first alarm and anticipate as good of service from this one. I recommend the Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk.
