These alarms were in our house when we bought our house, and today one started going off stating low battery. When I unplugged it from the wall to change the batteries, the alarm started going off NON STOP. I could not get the battery incasement to open up, so I had to plug it back in and listen to it beep ALL DAY. If it is unplugged, the alarm goes off continuously. I called the company, and the customer service representative said that since it is more than five years old, I should just throw it away. Way to stand behind your product. She also said you have to be very very strong to remove the batteries. That's an understatement. And she said removing the batteries is the only way to silence the deafening alarm. My ears are hurting very badly, as are my three year old's, and he also has been complaining of a headache since the incident. I wonder if the loud alarm about which the company boasts has caused permanent hearing damage for my child and myself. I only will buy an alarm from now on that has a hush button or switch, so that you can silence it while trying to change the batteries. I think one star is being generous, but Amazon doesn't offer a half of a star. Customer Review: DO NOT BUY!!!!!!

Bought one of these at one of those big box home stores. After about two months of use in a bedroom the thing started going off. Public service found nothing wrong and the other two older detectors were not detecting anything. Took it back and exchanged it and the new one started going off for no reason too. Public service again checked and found nothing, told me they'd had several other similar calls lately. These things are either defective by design or break down easily so if you want to sleep at night DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL!!!!Customer Review: Excellent carbon monoxide detector

We bought this particular detector because they are used where my husband works. He works in a warehouse where propane forklifts run all day, all seasons of the year, and Kidde is the brand they use. They work quite well there, so we figured they should work equally as well in our home. It does. I especially like the ability to place it directly in the electrical outlet or to hang it on the wall above the outlet, or place it on a shelf near an outlet. The battery back-up is another plus, as we sometimes lose power during storms.Customer Review: started going off on On GAS at all hours

after having this a year it started going off on On GAS at all hours "ALSO AT NIGHT TOO WHICH IS VERY SHOCKING" has my house checked, no gas present.
