Tools and Hardware Reviews of Kidde KN-COPP-B Front Load Battery-Operated Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Digital Display

Customer Review: Functional
Summary: 3 Stars

Battery in the front with a stand built into it makes this a nice product to move around and check and see different CO levels in different rooms of the house. The backlit LCD is easy to read. The reason I like this product is that it was on the lower end of the spectrum in price but still can tell you what the maximum amount of CO that was present since the monitor was last reset. I was interested to know not only when CO might be too high, but what the CO levels were when the alarm was not going off. I have not had the alarm go off yet but it has detected CO during certain times. It does what it says it will and is good for the price. Nothing exciting though. The only bad thing I can say is that there is a flashing green light that lets you know the unit is operating which can be annoying when you are trying to fall asleep.(small flash from a tiny LED every 1 to 2 sec.)

Customer Review: Best Carbon Monoxide Detector!
Summary: 5 Stars

I owned the previous model of this carbon monoxide detector and it lasted over 10 years! The digital readout allows you to review any CO levels by just pressing a button. Once, after painting a room, I checked the readout and a low-level reading appeared. After checking the manual I found out that the reading was due to the paint fumes. I feel safer knowing I can check for low-level readings that do not activate CO alarms in order to be aware of a potential problem. Some models do not have this feature and you would not have any way to know of a low-level reading. Also, the CO detector is easy to set up and operate, runs on batteries (included), and may sit on a shelf or be mounted on a wall. I believe this is a high-quality product at a very reasonable price!

Customer Review: Great price. Digital display is important to me.
Summary: 5 Stars

Just installed a natural gas space heater to replace my somewhat worthless gas logs/electric space heater. Tried them both.

The gas space heater creates a sauna in minutes. Great.

I'm the cautious type. I don't want to wake up dead from carbon monoxide poisoning.

I have two digital and two non digitals in my house.

Having digital ones lets you check the levels at any time.

The non digitals don't give you any warning of a problem, until they go off.

A positive. Batteries inserted from the front. Don't have to remove the unit to replace the 3 AA batteries.

Only negative. Can't hang from ceiling. Only a negative if you wanted to cover up a removed ceiling detector.

Customer Review: Questionable reliability
Summary: 1 Stars

When we bought our house two years ago, two of these were just installed by the seller (due to the new law in Massachusetts). After about a year, one of them started displaying randomly-on segments on the LCD, making the display useless. Presumably the CO alert still works, but who really knows? Then, the other one needed its battery changed, and after I put in the new set, it too has a corrupted display -- but worse, the alarm is stuck on, so it's pretty much broken.

And even when they were working, there's another annoyance: the green "Operate" light blinks brightly once a minute, which takes some getting used to in a bedroom when you're trying to fall asleep.

I'll be shopping for a different brand for replacements

Customer Review: Manufacture Date
Summary: 5 Stars

Had to replace my old Kidde KN-COPP-B Front Load that expired exactly 5 years after the manufacture date. I ended up buying three from Amazon because at the time they offered an amazing unbeatable deal and no other sellers could match the price. I've noticed a few complaints about the manufacture date on recently purchased alarms. Of the three I purchased in Dec 2009, one had a manufacture date of Feb 2009 and the other two were manufactured in March 2009. Even the the batteries included with each alarm had a Feb 2009 date stamped on them with a 2015 expiration date. Hope that squashes any concerns future purchasers might have. Oh yeah, this is a great battery operated carbon monoxide detector with a digital display and loud alert.
