Tools and Hardware Reviews of Kidde KN-COPP-B Front Load Battery-Operated Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Digital Display

Customer Review: Less than satisfied. . .
Summary: 1 Stars

Purchased about 30 of these units for the last heating season. All units seemed to function properly. The units were taken down, batteries removed, and the units were stored (we were concerned about theft of these units--not exactly cheap--and there is no anti-theft mounting) until needed for this year's heating season. When the batteries were re-installed, roughly 50% of the units had segments of the display missing or ghosting.
The company was very good about sending out replacements at no charge, but one can only wonder how this product will perform over it's intended lifespan.

Customer Review: More Features than Expected!
Summary: 2 Stars

If you like replacing 3 AA batteries every month then this product is for you! More specifically, if you like being woken up between 1-3am with an obnoxious beeping sound, since that's when this alarm decided it needs to be fed. There really is a good reason that every sitcom has done an episode on the smoke detector that goes off in the middle of the night that no one can find, and I'm pretty sure that this was the one that they used (yes, I know this is a CO2 detector). On the bright side, I'm sure this would go off in the event of high CO2 levels...after all nearly everything else sets it off!

Customer Review: Fine, better-than-basic CO alarm
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a good, high-quality device, with a clear display. The display is a little smaller and contains a little less than the earlier version of this same detector (of which I own two), which is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. But it works well, as best I could test it (using the vent from my gas oven), with a clear, easy-to-read display. The ability to change batteries without dismounting it is a plus. I bought this model (earlier and current versions) because it was highly rated and a good buy according to Consumer Reports, and it lives up to that review.

Customer Review: Testing Kiddes CO Detector
Summary: 5 Stars

I placed a bell jar over a candle til it guttered. I moved the bell jar slowly, to cover the CO detector. Initially, there was no observable change. But after less than a minute, the digital indicator started climbing. The notes mentioned that below a cut off concentration, there is no indication at all, and that's what I found. It was attractively priced and functional and I can use it as a sampling meter at a pinch. It has a longish time constant, which is probably as it should be. I liked the peak concentration storage/display capability.
Neat!

Customer Review: Convenient, functional
Summary: 4 Stars

I was looking for an inexpensive CO detector to replace one that reached its age limit. I selected this one because it seemed to do the job at a reasonable price. So far, after a month, it's all I expected. Easy to set up, unobtrusive, and works as promised. (Well, more accurately, I hope it works, as it hasn't detected anything yet. But it tests properly.)

A nice, unanticipated feature is it can prop itself up and stand on a flat surface. I put it on a shelf near where I was to place it, saving me the trouble of screwing it onto a wall.
