We bought three of these (one for each level of our home) about a year ago. I never really thought about it and just hoped they work properly. Last week at 5:30 am one of the detectors went off. I went down to our finished basement and it was yelling "Carbon Monoxide". We opened a bunch of windows, called Xcel energy and the fire department and left the house. Both the fire department and xcel arrived about the same time. They all walked through our home and said it definitely had CO inside. All of them said we could have easily died had we not owned these detectors. The cause of the problem was our 26 year old furnace. Ironically it was scheduled to be replaced this week with a new 95% efficient furnace.
I now feel so strongly about owning these things and replacing them about every 6 years that I decided to come out here and write a review on it. They work. They work well. And they probably just saved the lives of three people. I have no doubt about it.

Easy to install the alarm's base mount on either ceiling or wall..... does include the installation hardware....... 2 small screws and 2 small plastic anchors.....also includes the three AA Energizer batteries..... I liked that, and the alarm is very easy to remove from the base mount which I really like because i like to take this alarm with us on vacation when we are staying in motel rooms. The alarm is small and light and it fits very nice in our travel bag. When we get back home it only takes about 5 seconds, literally, to reinstall the alarm back on the wall mount again...... easier than screwing in a light bulb. The hush feature is very nice too when you burn your toast...... and the alarm will also automatically reset itself after a few minutes of burning toast or bacon..... the alarm is very loud and if it doesn't wake you up, then you're probably already dead....i am very happy with mine.... and I very much recommend this alarm......Customer Review: Do you like paying for an electrician? Then buy Kidde products.

I've had the Kidde combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm installed for three years and have paid $300 in electrician bills to install and fix them. Tomorrow morning I will pay again because the things wont stop chirping again.
The chirping is not caused by the battery. All the wire-in units have been reset. This is not the first time this is happened or that the units have alarmed because of a malfunction. Last time the units were still under waranty and Kidde replaced one. (Kidde didn't offer to pay for both visits by electricians.) Tomorrow morning I will pay another electricial but this time to unistall all of the units. I'm going back to the simpler battery-opperated ones (not by Kidde). I will never buy another Kidde product.
Oh, and forget any trouble-shooting help from the manual or the KiddeUs.com site. I found no help for this either place.

After reading reviews, I decided to purchase the Kidde KN-COSM-B Battery-Operated Combination Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Alarm with Talking Alarm thinking that it would be better protection than our plain smoke detector. Within two weeks of my husband putting it up, the unit started to chirp every 30 seconds. Because it was a weekend, the company was not open. On Monday, we called the manufacturer and were told that it was the indication of the unit being at the end of its life and that it was not functional. I don't know if it ever worked. I didn't get around to calling Amazon until today, November 15th and they said that because I had gotten the unit on October 13th, I could no longer return it to Amazon. It was my impression that when purchasing items from Amazon, they would stand behind them. I was sorely disappointed to find out that they would not.

After someone explained to me that "beeping" noises of smoke alarms do not always wake people (especially children), I looked into this `talking alarm'. It is amazing. Instead of that annoying `beep-beep', you hear either a vocal, "Fire! Fire!" or "Carbon Monoxide!". Not all smoke alarms will detect carbon monoxide and any firefighter, policeman or paramedic will tell you that carbon monoxide can be just as deadly. Plus, this kit comes with batteries and a DVD that shows firefighters in action. This is the kind of protection every family needs and at the price, it can't be beat. You can easily test it weekly and a small green light will tell you if the batteries are functional (you should change them every year anyway). When the batteries are low, the red light flashes and a voice warns you along with a 'chirp'. This is a no-brainer!
