I originally purchased two of these 7 years ago when I moved into our new home. The two I just purchased are replacing the original two. Being a Firefighter I am very safety minded. Because these are two-in-one alarms, I think they are a super buy. About 4 years ago one of the alarms went off in the middle of the night warning of Carbon Monoxide. My charcoal grill was put back into my garage too soon and CO was building up in the house. THANKS to Kidde and this alarm system!!! Remember to replace these units every 5-7 years and replace the batteries every time the time changes...(every 6 months)Customer Review: easy to install, 2 protections in 1

I bought this to replace a regular smoke alarm; I wanted to have the protection of the CO in addition to smoke. Sure enough, you can't really install it without the batteries (included). The tone is piercing, but the voice (telling you what kind of alarm) is less loud, so it might be hard to hear through a door when the alarm goes off. It has several mounting holes, so if you're replacing an existing alarm, you may not have to install new screws (which are included). I haven't used the hush feature yet (for false alarms), but that'd be important if it was anywhere near my kitchen.Customer Review: Kiddie KN-COSM-B fire/CO alarm

fire alarm very sensitive and loud
hush feature button is also button for test.
The directions didn't specify how to press the button to activate Hush feature, (i.e. press and hold until activated, quickly press and release to activate, or some other way). Three out of four times I tried to activate the hush feature for the fire alarm when the alarm went off from using the oven, the test feature activated instead of the hush feature.
No CO alarms yet, that's good, but no safe way of verifying it will work when I need it to.

The Kiddie smoke/co2 alarm works great! We installed both units in the same location as the old smoke detectors were located however one was in the kitchen where we had just installed a gas range; and sure enough the kitchen smoke/alarm went off (Scared my wife's dog) while I was cooking bacon and forgot to turn the exhaust fan on. Moved the alarm to the computer room just off the kitchen and have not heard a beep from it. We have a 1960 brick home and was not wired for alarms so we purchased the battery powered ones.Customer Review: excellent product

This purchase was a replacement for an identical 9 year old combination alarm. Based upon the lengthy satisfactory service of the replaced item, I am confident my new purchase will give like service.
The most suprising thing about this purchase (since it was my first experience with Amazon.com) was the promptness of receipt of the purchase. The order was placed on a Friday afternoon, the new smoke alarm arrived on Monday. I was only without the protection of this item a very short time. THANKS
