Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chalkboard Contact Paper, 18" x 6'Customer Review: Great product so far Summary: 4 Stars
As anyone in biology can tell you, it's difficult to keep information in a readily accessible and understandable manner. I looked into getting a markerboard for diagramming information at home, but was astounded by the prices ($150 +) and even more so by shipping prices ($100 +). So I sought out an alternative and came across this little gem. Skeptical, I purchased a roll and put up a test piece to ensure it didn't destroy the walls of my 50 year old apartment. It adheres beautifully and peels right off without any damage to my frail walls. I didn't want the chalk residue everywhere, so I invested in some liquid chalk pens (Pentel Arts Wet Erase Chalk Marker, Chisel Tip, Yellow Ink, 1 Pack (SMW26BPG)) and they write wonderfully with great contrast. Regular water does not remove them but a quick spritz of Windex and it washes right off without any remaining residue. The only downside I can think of is ANY texture or imperfections in your walls will show through.
So, in conclusion, while I cannot attest to it's use with chalk (hence 4 stars), it works wonderfully with the Pentel markers I bought and provides a great (and cheap) means of making a quick writing surface out of a normal wall.
Customer Review: Great product Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this contact paper to convert an old poster frame into a chalkboard. The contact paper works very well for writing chalk on. I actually didn't need to prime it first but still went ahead anyways like other reviewers suggested. The only difficulty I had was trying to get the contact paper to lie flat with out bubbling when being applied to such a large space (24" wide). If your projects in mind for this contact paper are small then this will fit your needs. If you are looking to apply this to a larger surface then you will need some help and some patience. My husband and I gave up on trying to smooth the bubbles out but since we were creating a grid on the chalkboard it was not too noticable once our project was finished and hung. Overall, I'm still happy I went with the contact paper instead of chalkboard paint (which I have not worked with). I didn't have to do any clean up aside from throwing the backing away!
Customer Review: Better than expected Summary: 5 Stars
I was skeptical about the quality of the chalkboard but was willing to try the contact paper chalkboard. It arrived earlier than expected (which was great) and in great condition. It took me about 5-10 minutes to cover 16 x 34 inch area on my cupboards, getting bubbles out was a bit tricky and just took patience. As soon as I wiped it clean with a damp paper towel, I started writing our dinner menu. It works perfect and feels just like a regular chalkboard. Definitely pleasantly surprised!
While I was re-positioning it to get the bubbles out, it felt easy to lift and left no residue (which was one of my husband's main concern). I've only had it on for a day, so I'm not sure if the same will hold true in a couple months.
At this price, it's definitely worth it. My next project is to cut shapes and put them in our kids' bedrooms!
Customer Review: Covering an old blackboard Summary: 4 Stars
I've had an old blackboard in my store that I use quite often to advertise specials, but the black part was in pretty bad shape and it appeared inevitable that it was ready for the garbage heap. When I tried to get a replacement for it, I couldn't find one the size that I needed. The contact paper seemed like it might work for me, so I bought a roll. It arrived in lightning fast speed through the regular mail. I cut the paper to fit the blackboard, and found it works pretty well. I have been able to write my "specials" on it with my different colored chalk, and it wipes off well. The best part is, that there is plenty of chalkboard contact paper left, so I can keep my specially sized blackboard for many years to come by just replacing the paper when necessary. Not too bad.
Customer Review: It works! Summary: 5 Stars
So I was skeptical at first, but I ordered a roll for my apartment so I could customize the chalkboard I wanted and not have to permanently mount anything.
You have to be really careful when applying, I went really slowly and applied it to three foam poster boards to try and eliminate air bubbles. I chose the boards instead of applying it directly to the wall b/c they aren't exactly smooth.
I followed the suggestions from one of the other reviews and rubbed chalk over the board and wiped it away with a paper towel and that worked WONDERS! the chalk writes so smoothly and shows up great. However I strongly suggest against sidewalk chalk, it's much too hard and doesn't show up at all.
