Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leak Frog LF001 Water AlarmCustomer Review: Money well spent! Put these anywhere you might get leaks! Summary: 5 Stars
I just bought a couple of these a few weeks ago, and it has already more than paid for itself!
Bottom line: Everyone should have at least one of these! Even better to have one every place that could leak water (sinks, tubs/toilets, water heater, washing machine, dish washer).
Background:
I had put one just in front of the washing machine in the utility/storage room since the floor slopes slightly that way...I had the laundry going while I was at the other end of the house doing other stuff, when I heard "beep beep" "beep beep" "beep beep", it was leak frog going off - I could hear it from the other end of the house even with the utility/storage room door closed! I went to see what he was complaining about, fully expecting it to be some kind of false alarm or the frog's idea of a joke. But no! There was about 1/16th of an inch of water that had gotten onto the leak frog, setting off his sensors. Because he had alerted me so quickly, I was able to keep the water from getting onto anything else which saved my stored stuff from getting ruined. I was so happy with my new little leak frog friend ;) I was also able to watch the washing machine and saw where the leak was coming from - it was from the drainage tube, so it was a quick google, a little duct tape, and it's fixed. No major cleanup, all it took was a towel to get up the water since there was so little of it on the floor. To quiet leak frog once I got in there, I just shook him a couple times to get the water off his sensors, I also could have wiped off the bottom of him to dry the two little metal sensors (actually, only one sensor needs to be dry to stop his cries for help).
I'm so happy with the leak frog, that I've gotten more of them and placed them under my sinks, by my water heater, and will put one in my a/c drip pan as well...I might even put one by each toilet just in case those hoses ever leak or the toilet overflows. I know what I'll be getting my friends for their next gifts, too ;)
Before I had the leak frog, I had a hot water heater go an leak all over, flooding the back room of my house as well as the utility/storage room. It was very messy, expensive, and difficult to clean up and ruined a lot of stuff :( I tried another water leak detector from the local hardware store, and it didn't work very well, either - it was unreliable. This guy is small, unobtrusive, looks cute (if that really matters to you), and has a big voice - unless you have hearing problems, you WILL hear this guy!
Now, I have no more worries with the leak frog on duty! The only thing that could possibly make this little guy better would be if he could call or text me if I'm away from home and there's a leak LOL
