Customer Review: Sump Pump Failure - Leak Frog Saved My Basement
Summary: 5 Stars

About a couple years ago I invested in a couple of of Leak Frog water detectors. They were cheap at the time and thought I probably would ever really need them but thought better safe then sorry. Well, last night we had some incredible rain falls in our area and my wife heard this chirping coming from the basement. Luckly, I was just walking in the door and we found our Leak Frog going off by our sump pump hole. The pump had failed and water was starting to gush over the top of the concrete.

Thankfully, I had a spare pond pump in which I was able to start pumping water out of the hole via a garden hose out the front door. Meanwhile I ran to Lowes and picked up a new pump and installed it. Having a finished basement and very little wet carpet that is by the utility area, the damage was very minimal and nothing fans won't dry up. The basement damage could of been much worse if it hadn't been for Leak Frog! I never write reviews, but I thought this product deserved some praise!

Customer Review: Cute little buggers
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased three of these as I have at least that many locations I want to be sure aren't getting wet from leaky plumbing. I tested all three when I got them, and they work great. Very sensative to minimal amounts of water. There's a nice reset button on the top of these which stops them from alarming but will keep alarming until the sensor contacts have been dried. I've placed each of these on a small pad of paper toweling to better allow water nearby but to wick to these sensors possibly more quickly than just sitting on the bare surface. So far no leaks found, but when or if they do occur, I feel confident that these cute little critters will let me know before any water leak has time to do too much damage. I also considered the more "sensor-ish" looking versions, but I decided these whimsical creatures were just as effective as any of those, and they're conversation pieces if people ever notice them.

Customer Review: So far so good
Summary: 4 Stars

I guess the only thing bad about this unit is that I did not buy one sooner. I had a mjor water leak in my bathroom downstairs and this certainly would have prevented the damage to my wood floors had I purchased on sooner. Needless to say, I feel more secure knowing that if it happens again, I have one on "standby" downstairs now.

The unit is solidly built and tested well. When the unit was placed on a damn paper towel, the alarm sounded. I agree with the other reviewers that the sound emmited is not the loudest, but will work well if it is in an area of the house that has some sound resonance (ie. a downstairs bathroom) but may not be too effective in a deep basement where the sound needs to travel far.

For peace of mind, it is a good investment and I will probably pick up a few more soon for the other areas of the house.

Customer Review: Works great and plenty loud enough
Summary: 5 Stars

We've used leakfrogs in our basement (near heating and plumbing), in our laundry room and in the attic where we have another hvac unit. Our leakfrogs work *great*. They've worked exactly as designed when we've had a couple of washer problems, and have really saved the day when our attic hvac condensor drain got plugged up.

Not sure why some people are complaining about the volume. These are not intended to be burglar-alarm loud, but the high-pitched beeping is *plenty* loud enough to hear from another floor or several rooms away. You may not hear it immediately, but within a minute it got our attention to leaks that could have caused severe damage.

Leakfrogs are indispensible, in addition to being cute and fun. They make *great* gifts for parents and relatives who seem to have everything. Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Great product!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was very skeptical but purchased two of these Leak Frogs as I have hardwood kitchen floors with potential for serious water damage if a sink, dishwasher or icemaker were to leak. Even though the product recommends against putting the device in a closed cupboard I placed it under my kitchen sink behind closed doors. Less than a month after my purchase I was working at my sink when I heard a VERY loud and impressive alarm sound. Sure enough, my sink pipe had started leaking and the cupboard had a small amount of standing water in it (soon to be a lot more!). This product worked great and was easy to hear even in a closed cupboard. I have now ordered four more of them for my other sinks, behind my fridge and my clothes washer and I may consider even more. I highly recommend this inexpensive device. Well worth the cost!
