Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leak Frog LF001 Water AlarmCustomer Review: These are not loud at all Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased two LeakFrogs for use in my basement by our sump pump and ejector pit. I figured they would alert us to any overflow that may occur.
To test them I dumped a cup of water on the ground. They went off like they should, but we cannot hear them from the first floor of our house. The beep they emit is so soft you can talk over it. I was expecting them to be as loud as a smoke detector.
I end up getting alarms with 110 dB sirens that can be heard anywhere in our house. Why have an alarm if no one can hear it? The only time I maybe see these being useful is under a sink and even then I'd rather have one of the 110db alarms. I want something to wake me up in the middle of the night. With the Leakfrogs I wouldn't know about the leak until I woke up.
Customer Review: My hero, the basement saver! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had my Leak frog for a while now, and his job has been pretty cozy just hanging out by the sump pump. Today we had lots of snow and rain, and my wife came home to the sound of "Leaky" buzzing away. Our sump pump failed and the frog alerted my wife before too much damage was done. The siren is loud enough to hear it clearly on the first floor of the house. I wish my sump pump was as reliable as this little guy!!!
Without the leak frog our basement would have severely flooded. We don't go down there enough to notice any problems, and this could have gotten out of hand quickly.
A lot of people laughed at me when I purchased this item. As funny as this product seems, the job it did today was really no joke.
Customer Review: Best of the Bunch Summary: 5 Stars
I have several coral reef aquariums with complex sump and filtration systems that occasionally result in leaks. I've used several brands of water detectors but the little Leak Frog is the best. One key design element that makes this one better is the dome shaped case. It makes the detector very stable and as long as the frog is upright, you know the sensors are on the floor. Other detectors can be easily knocked on their side or turned upside down and you might not even notice until it's too late. My frog was loud enough to awaken me in the middle of the night when a drain tube clogged, saving the lives of my expensive fish and corals and preventing the mess that 50 gallons of salt water would have made in my family room.
Customer Review: Seems to do the job Summary: 5 Stars
So far, so good. I received the product, installed the (included, 3AAA) batteries, and set it on the countertop. I then poured a small puddle near it and let the puddle "wander" over to the Leak Frog. As promised, the Leak Frog started making a bunch of beeps, sort of like a smoke detector -- nice and loud, but slightly less nerve-grating.
So, my hands-on "playing" with it indicates it's good. But hopefully I'll never find out if it really saves the day during a leak, flood, or other water damage event. Also, curiously waiting to see how long the batteries last.
Customer Review: I wish I had this earlier! Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I have had two water issues in our condo in the past, and I found this product a few months ago. I wish I had it back then!! My husband had to replace our toilet tank, and we left it in there since it still had a very small leak. We'd left a towel there to absorb the water until we were able to fix it, and once the towel got too wet and the water began running onto the floor, the Leakfrog went off. We have a small washer/dryer in our condo, too, and we usually keep ours there, but now we're going to buy some extra ones to place in other areas. I love this thing!!
