My unit is not working. I am loath to send it back since the price for returning it to Amazon may be greater than the price for buying a new unit. The battery holder may be the problem because it definitely gets hot to the touch - just no light.
My local hardware store sells some regular flashlights with the same build - I wonder if I can interchange parts. Anywho,I am giving this item 1 star for being DOA.

My husband and i messed with the flashlight for hours trying different batteries and testing them in other products, we eventually got it to come on for a few minutes, and it did show the cat stains i wanted to see, but it didn't last long enough to do the whole room and now we can't get it to work AT ALL, it's really frustrating, we understand it could be a rare malfunction, but i would go with another product just to be safeCustomer Review: Nice for pin point black light.

Been using it about a week to charge glow in the dark disc golf discs. i have another hand held florescent tube black light i use as well. this one puts more black light in a smaller spot that visibly travels a foot or so farther than the tube lamp. would give 5 stars if it seemed to more effective than my other one but not at all. my other one was $5 and has a regular LED light on it too which is useful.Customer Review: The packing did not include instructions

The flashlight arrived in a generic, unmarked small box. There were no instructions (e.g. on proper battery placement) nor was there any brand identification or shipping company identification. It was my impression that small appliances are required by consumer law to include such packaging. This made me a bit cautious. The light never stays at a even level, tried changing battery brands. Light output is very low and it flickers all of the time between dim and bright light output. Save your money on this one. The company did deliver it quickly and Amazon is great.
Very low quality light. If low price is your ONLY criteria then this is a good light, otherwise skip this one!!!!
