This pen light is nicely built and works fine but the one LED is too weak to be of any use from any distance.
In a pitch black room it sheds little visible or white light but if there is any light in the room you will be hard pressed to see its effect on anything at a distance.
As far as being a true black light......It is about the strongest I could find on Amazon at 375nm. It offers more UV light and less white light than any of the other multi led 395nm offerings.
It operates on a 1.5 volt AAA battery which is handy but there is only one LED.
If you want one of these for small items or close work, this would be fine but for larger areas or serious UV detection of body fluids I think a stronger rated UV light with more led's would provide better coverage.
