I usually don't get excited about replacement parts, but of course when it was needed, the first place I thought of was Sears. After endless telephonic menu choices and vast amounts of time being placed on hold by the clueless clerk on the other end of the line, I was told that the part would get to me in two weeks at at expidited price and cost three times what it did on Amazon (who incidently got it to me in two days). The Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Gear Kit arrived quickly, and was exactly as described. The instructions were adequate, and the parts exactly as needed to replace the gears for my Sears 1/3 HP 1993 garage door opener. One minor item - the set screws which go into the retainer on the end of the motor shaft and which holds the helical gear on were too long, and once installed would hit the plastic speed limiter mechanism. I used the original set screws which fit in the new retainer just fine.Customer Review: Great low cost fix for my garage door opener

My Liftmaster garage door opener (Formula I with whisper drive) chewed up it's big spur gear. This kit can restore the opener to new condition, but you do need some basic tools (small wrenches or nut drivers, hammer, and pin punch). The toughest part is hammering out the two roll pins with hammer and pin punch that hold the worm and spur gears on their shafts. If it quite satisfying to fix your own stuff and fun seeing how it works. This was a cheap fix that saved buying a new $200+ opener.Customer Review: liftmaster replacement gear kit

I received this product very quickly and at this price, it's a LOT better than replacing the entire unit. The instructions were very clear and other reviews were very helpful. My gear wasn't ground up but instead, the collar had cracked both above and below the gear. This meant that all I had to do was manage to get the broken gear off and just replace that. It was simple and by just taking my time, (it took 1 1/2 hours all together)I was able to get my door back working again.Customer Review: parts and instructions fine, but after installation, found motor controller was bad, too.

So, rather than take more hours trying to find and replace the controller board, and perhaps finding other problem,, ordered new opener kit in model equivalent to old unit. Only had to use opener and new remote (they change to different the radio frequency used). Ordering full opener kit to start would have saved me 4 or 5 hours. If you use old track and chain, be sure to check track chain and pulleys to make sure they are in good condition and lubricate them.
