Tools and Hardware Reviews of LRI PWK Photon II LED Keychain Micro-Light, White BeamCustomer Review: very bright and well built Summary: 5 Stars
This bad boy is insanely bright, lighting a completely dark room with ease. You want to hold it above your head if you value your night vision because there's no shroud around the led, so your peripheral vision will pick it up easily.
It's almost too small for comfortable use, but I have large hands. The on/off switch requires a thumbnail to operate cause it's so tiny.
The unit is solidly built, held together with 4 tiny screws. Instructions are included on how to replace the batteries. It uses 2 CR2016 watch batteries.
The case is glass-filled polyurethane and the LED is a solid state full spectrum (6500 Kelvin), quoted from the instruction card.
The keychain part is also well made. There's a strong split ring on the unit, with a strong spring clasp on that.
If you keep a light on your keychain or EDC, you know how bulky many of them are. This light goes unnoticed, and it's the only one I know of with an on/off switch PLUS a momentary switch.
It's also made in the USA from American and foreign parts.
Overall a solid product and I'll never buy a different light again unless they make one slightly larger.
Customer Review: more like micro surgery Summary: 2 Stars
The product received is pretty bright, and also very small. The problem arises when the time comes to change the batteries. First, you must remove 4 tiny screws from the back of the housing with an eyeglass repair screwdriver; that is, if you have one. Next, you must pull apart the housing very carefully so you dont mess with the insides of the light. If you jerk or slip when doing this you risk losing the tiny bulb, filament, switch, and batteries on the ground, where you will likely never see them again. If you succeed in this, you must now disassemble the inner workings of the light so you can get to and change the batteries(2 CR2016). Once this is accomplished, and it is an accomplishment, you have to retrace your steps without losing any parts to put the light back together. The process of battery changing for this product seems to me, akin to surgery, with tiny parts and tiny tools required. I would skip this light and go with Streamlights NANO instead, It is brighter, just as small, and the battery change is fairly straight-forward. If you need to change batteries in the field or under duress, forget it with the photon.
Customer Review: Warning: PLEXSUPPLY (vendor) is selling fake LRI Photon II LED keychain lights Summary: 2 Stars
A couple of weeks ago I ordered 7 of these from PLEXSUPPLY to give as Christmas gifts. I've owned a couple over the years, and they're the greatest keychain lights (super bright, compact, & durable). However, when I opened the package, I found 1 genuine LRI Photon II LED keychain light (nicely packaged with instructions, warranty info, etc., like the manufacturer intended), and 6 fake/knock-off lights. The only packaging they had was a little clear plastic bag with a typed label (claiming it was a LRI Photon II LED keychain light). There were no instructions, no warranty info, no nice packaging. Definitely not worthy to give as a gift. Since I've owned the authentic ones before, I knew what to expect. Other people may receive the knock-off and not realize they're fake. The fake ones work okay, seem bright enough, & actually look almost identical to the authentic LRI Photon II's, but will likely have cheap batteries that won't last, and aren't as bright as the real deal...plus, no instructions, no warranty info, no decent packaging. I returned the 6 fakes, but what a hassle. Buyer beware & good luck!
Customer Review: WARNING - You may receive a fake Photon light! Summary: 1 Stars
I ordered this Photon light after having purchased my last Photon light locally. I really liked my original light, and thought this light was going to be the same. Instead, I received something that looked like a Photon light, but was clearly a cheap knock-off. It came in a clear plastic baggie - that's it. No nice packaging, no name on the bag, nothing!
The button had no ridges, like the real light should have. The switch was black and did not work, unlike the real light where the switch is clear and the switch keeps the light in the "on" position. This light flickered a little, was very dim, and basically did not work. The keychain was also completely different. Someone posted a product photo here of the knock-off light, which I should have seen before ordering this.
THIS IS A WARNING - what you will most likely receive if you purchase this is an inferior knock-off that does NOT have the quality of the real light. My fake light is going back to Amazon tomorrow. Amazon, you should be ashamed of yourself for selling this piece of junk.
Customer Review: FAKE. Summary: 1 Stars
What I received was a counterfeit Photon light. Real Photons are wonderful lights and I have been using them for many years. This is NOT a real Photon. It is a cheap knock-off being sold as a real Photon. Amazon said it was sold and shipped from them. Listed on the receipt is "Sold by Miriam Holdings LLC." The "seller" info for Miriam takes me to SuperDeal.
Amazon customer service said they would refund me if I sent it back and they sent me a return label. The time it would take to pack it up and take it to the post office is worth more than the refund amount, not to mention that the fake light is worthless.
REAL LRI Photon IIs are amazing lights. Real Photons come in packaging with warranty, care, and use instructions. Real Photons exude quality and are the best micro-lights on the market in my opinion. What I received is junk.
A first time buyer might be fooled and take the bait-and-switch without ever realizing it.
