Tools and Hardware Reviews of La Crosse Technology EA-3010U Handheld AnemometerCustomer Review: La Crosse Technology EA-3010U Handheld Anemometer Summary: 3 Stars
The unit is small (roughly 4 inches tall, 2 inches wide, 1/2 inch deep) and light. The temperature readings are accurate but it takes quite a while for it to adjust to large temperature differences when going from inside to outside. The wind speed doesn't work quite as well as I wanted. The manual states that it will read as low as .4 mph, however, my unit will not start to register until the wind speed is above 7 mph. It will then give readings until the wind speed drops to around 3 mph where the blades will abuptly stop as if they hit a sticky spot. It then takes a gust to get them spinning again.
According to the Lacrosse support page, email is the preferred way of contacting them and at least they are honest in saying that it will take forever and a day for them to respond. The clock is currently ticking at 5 business days without a reply.
Customer Review: La Crosse Anemometer Summary: 5 Stars
Very nice anemometer for the price. I am using it to test backpacking stoves and I am using the La Crosse to set and verify wind speeds from 5-25 mph (using a fan and adjusting the position of the fan away from the stove). Yes, you need to read the manual to figure out all of the setting but that doesn't take too long. At very low wind speeds, the impellers may not spin. I discovered that this was due to the magnet in the rotor: the magnet is used to count the number of revolution and is an imbalance. You can solve this issue by giving the rotors a slight puff to get them spinning. After that, the reading seem fine. I like the small size and look forward to testing it on backpacking trips.
Customer Review: This product doesn't fill my needs. Summary: 3 Stars
Being on an extreme budget, I was looking for an anemometer that would be useful for hunting. I wanted one that could measure wind speeds less than one-mile-per-hour. All the other products that I had looked at, their wind vanes were way too small. When I saw this one, I thought that perhaps it could do the job, since it's vanes were much larger than the competition. But after receiving it, I unpacked it, and inserted a new battery. I then took it outside to try it. Much to my dismay, it only registered winds which were somewhere around 2 MPH. Anything slower than that, and it would not budge. I can only put in the category of being a toy.
Customer Review: problem product Summary: 1 Stars
When I first received this Anemometer the battery was dead. I replaced the battery with new one and it worked fine. Turned it off and put it away. A few days latter I took it out to use it again and the battery was dead again. I found out there is a drain on the battery when the unit is off. So now I pull the battery out when I put it away. When I put the battery back in to use it, the unit will not power up with out fooling around with it for several minutes. It's too much work so now it's back in the box and in a drawer. This works fine when working but, I would find a different unit that is more reliable.
Customer Review: Great for science projects Summary: 5 Stars
-Great For a Science Project
This anemometer seems pretty good to me. I needed one for my daughter's science project, and this one had a great price. It also seemed to satisfy the needs for the project... In other words, it was perfect enough for my daughter. After her science project was finished, it was just very fun to have for my daughter, especially on windy days. Even if it wasn't a windy day, all of the kids like to test it on the fan. I don't really know how accurate it is, but it works just fine for my kids' educational purposes. It is easy to use and portable.
