Tools and Hardware Reviews of La Crosse Technology EA-3010U Handheld Anemometer

Customer Review: SLOOOW response
Summary: 1 Stars

First unit delivered had a defective display. The second unit worked. This unit has a 'chill factor' feature. The temperature display responds so slowly it takes at least 30 minutes for the reading to settle from a inside to an outside temperature. (Hope you can stand the cold waiting.) The company did not respond to help line phone calls and 'didn't call back', or respond to any emails. The only way I got a response was to write to the president of the company. I got a response, but 'that's just the way it works' is the response. Please don't purchase from LaCrosse.

Customer Review: Worthless
Summary: 1 Stars

This product has been absolutley worthless for me for measuring wind speed from the day I got it. I have very strong winds, probably about 40- 60 mph fairly regularly and the anemomter will never show anything over 6.0 mph. It is very frustrating because I stand outside in the cold to get a reading and it will only show single digit readings. I even sent it back to the manufacturer for repairs shortly after receiving it and it came back exactly the same. I think it's worthless for wind speeds, but I can get temperature readings from it.

Customer Review: Having fun....
Summary: 5 Stars

We live in what seems to be a wind tunnel. For years we've just relied on the news & weather channel for information but we got to the point that we want to know just HOW STRONG our winds are & what the actual wind chill is. This is a great little unit for just regular people. We're having fun. It didn't start up when I got it so I called the company. Immediately got a RMA# & returned it for inspection. Battery was dead. I had it back in less than a week after it had been checked out & they'd put in a new battery. Fun to have for us.

Customer Review: Better than expected.
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading several of the reviews I was a little worried the anemometer wouldn't work. I bought it anyway because it's much cheaper than some of the others on the market. Even if it didn't work well it would probably still serve my purpose. As soon as I put the battery in and gave it a little test, it was working. Even took it down the road on the four wheeler to make sure a little higher speeds would work. Walking around the yard it was even picking up .4mph. Very satisfied so far. Hope it doesn't give out later.

Customer Review: Well versed in the wind
Summary: 3 Stars

While this is a great little product, if you are already well versed in the wind and spend your time checking NOAA's website for forecasts, you might want to consider going with a pricier version. This is a sturdy little device, but it would be great if it could include wind direction. If you aren't good at telling the speed of the wind by feel and need a little help, then this is definitely a good investment. Regardless, my kiteboarding pals have fun blowing into this to see who can create the strongest gust!
