Tools and Hardware Reviews of FastCap 3rd Hand Support System 57-to-144-Inches, 2-pack #3HAND5

Customer Review: Great for crown molding
Summary: 4 Stars

I just used a pair to install crown molding. Now, I'm wondering how I would have done the job without these handy helpers. Very impressive! I'm not concerned about the strenght of these supports for crown molding. Still, I would not put much load on them fully extended - maybe 10 pounds. Fully retracted, they are quite strong. There were no instructions, cautions, or specifications packed in the shipping box. I thought this to be very odd as manufacturers are pretty cautious about misuse of their products.

You can easily extend the supports to the proper length as you would with a pipe clamp and then chinch it tight with the hand hand grip. The grip and ball joints at the top and bottom are made of plastic and would appear to be easy to break. If it does, the support becomes useless. This concern is why I rated it with 4 stars. However, I've dropped mine on hard tile twice now and have not broken anything yet.

Customer Review: the cats meow
Summary: 4 Stars

I am a finish carpenter who does not work well with others. Before I ordered the 3rd hand product I always had to pay someone to help me hang crown mold. The 3rd hand set of 4 cost about the same as I would have to pay someone to help me 1 day.The product actually holds crown mold right where you want it to. It is excellent for making splices on long walls and with special order millwork where you often get short lengths.I ordered this this spring after looking at it at amazon for years. You combine this with a walkboard or 2 and the results are amazing. It takes a little practice but the end results are worth it. I always thought that it probably would not work as well as it says but I was wrong. I should have ordered it the first time I saw it.

Customer Review: 3rd Hand Support Sustem
Summary: 5 Stars

I needed something to assist me in installing crown molding in my house. I had heard about this product, but I couldn't find it locally. Fortunately, it was available on Amazon. I bought a set of 2 items and they work great. At first, I thought they might be a bit bulky because of their weight, but they provided solid support for my project. They are adjustable and work great on my nine foot ceilings. The spring locks to lengthen the poles work positively and the hand levers for the smaller adjustments feel solid and strong, making as minute adjustments as needed. The product came shipped securely wrapped in cardboard containers from the factory and there was no damage. I would highly recommend this product.

Customer Review: Be careful- fragile, poor quality tool
Summary: 2 Stars

These things might be okay for homeowner repair, IF you are lucky enough to get one that is functioning, but they will not withstand the rigors of daily use by a builder/ contractor/ remodeler. After one ride in the back of the truck, one of my four poles ended up with a cracked tightening knob. After use on two jobs, one of the 4 poles will no longer extend when the lever handle is pumped. And, be certain you don't use these things to hold up anything that can do serious injury or damage if it falls, because the pump lever mechanism is prone to sudden failure, even when it seems to be working. This tool is a really good idea, but poorly designed and manufactured with bad quality control.

Customer Review: So Far So Good!
Summary: 5 Stars

They are Handy, they work very well. For what I paid they are a good value. Then again, I am not a contractor, don't use em every day etc.... They are not tough enough to handle long term abuse.

If I was a drywall installer? Forget it...too flimsy. Kinda like expecting a pup tent to last as a toolshed. For the weekender who may hang a cabinet or two, or hang a celing's worth of sheetrock now and again...it's GREAT!

They do have a weight limit of 70 lbs....I suspect that a 4X12 sheet of 5/8" rock might be overwhelming for just one unit!

Remember...it's cheaper than renting a drywall jack...and...you get what you pay for. For the intended purpose...I got my money's worth.
