Customer Review: It works in my apartment!

This was my first humidifier purchase, I was looking for one that better ratings overall. I didn't know much about the differences between types (mist, heated, ionic). As another reviewer put, this humidifier is a true workhorse. All humidifiers tend to require daily and weekly maintenance, which while annoying, I guess goes with the territory. This unit is easy to operate and clean. I live in an 800 sq ft apartment and suffer from poor insulation and a very powerful forced air heater. The output states Med/Large room 650-1050 sq ft. I haven't had much luck based on my hydrometer, which stays at 16% with this unit running. I was able to get my bedroom to 25%, with the door closed. I think this is more towards the apartment than the unit. I was however, able to get the apartment to 40% by boiling water on the stove, keeping the humidifier running on HIGH, and taking a shower. However, quickly (6 hours later, the humidity dropped and held at 25% until I turned the unit off. I recently haven't been running it because I have been in and out and haven't had time for the daily maintenance. Even though my humidity level doesn't change on my hydrometer, when its' off, I can definitely tell that the air is dryer without the unit running and I have to turn up the heat to feel warm.
My two complaints are that the air coming out is cool because it's a cool mist humidifier and the "auto" on/off switch, based on humidity level doesn't seem to be very accurate (it never cut back on when the humidity dropped). For my situation, i just let it run all the time, which works the best.
As for noise, the nighttime (low) setting is very quiet, but not sure how useful that would be, since it doesn't seem to output a lot of air. The high setting is like a desk fan on high, it can be a good background/white noise, but annoying when trying to watch TV. The medium setting is very tolerable and is like a gentle fan. This humidifier will run approx.. 12 hours on high and 24 hours on medium between fillings. I haven't seen how it affects my electric bill, but based on online calculators, it will raise my bill by $10-15 a month if I had it running 24 hours a day for 30 days.
All in all, I thought it was a good purchase. After I bought it, I wish I would have bought a more powerful/bigger unit, but I thought about buying another one to help out, but not really sure I want to "care for" 2 humidifiers. For the price, it was reasonable, I couldn't justify spending over $100 for a unit that does the same thing.
