Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lasko 4904 Space-Saving Pivoting Task FanCustomer Review: Nice quiet fan. Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this fan to help cool the guts of our 5 year old Toshiba rear projection TV. The TV has had to be fixed several times and the components that are going bad are on a heat sink which leads me to believe they're burning up prematurely do the excessive heat.
This fan was recommended by my brother who also uses one to cool his home theatre and gave me rave reviews on the amount of air it moves and the amount of noise - or lack thereof.
It's a pretty heavy fan for it's size and I think it moves a pretty good amount of air despite of some of the other reviews. It's ideal for cooling stereo and home theatre components due to it's smaller footprint and the ability to tilt it up and down. Air is taken in through a series of small holes on each of the fan. This is what some call a "squirrel cage" fan. It has a long cord and a knob on the back for OFF, LOW, and HIGH.
It's quiet enough that we don't notice it when watching TV.
Customer Review: This is truly a QUIET near-silent fan Summary: 5 Stars
I get so sick of marketing materials for fans that claim silence, super quiet, "just a whisper" etc. It's all lies! I have personally bought many of them and I found out how these fan makers lie through their teeth. The ONLY fans that I have found which are the exception are a few models from Brookstone (like model 767), the Vornado Zippi and this Lasko 4904. You can truly barely hear these fans on their slowest settings. The result is that I can lay in bed with the fan going, music playing at an absolute whisper volume and easily fall asleep. I like the 4904 so much that I bought several more. One sits at my desk to keep the air gently moving. The other is for keeping some of my computer gear cool. I hope this fan last lots of years and stays just as quiet, because it's the perfect companion.
Customer Review: Not quiet enough for office... Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this fan for my cubicle at work after reading several reviews stating it is very quiet. Perhaps mine is defective but it is NOT quiet: it develops an annoying clicking sound after about 30 minutes of operation. Also, it's a bit clunky for desktop use as it takes up 8-10" of cubic space. It does have 2 speeds and the high setting does produce strong airflow but directional options are limited and - again - it's simply too loud for an office setting where others are around. I wish I had returned it before my 30 days were up! It has been relocated to my husband's shop while I look for a replacement.
Customer Review: Nice little fan Summary: 4 Stars
I work in an office where my co-workers tend to crank the heat up. So rather than sweat in silence I decided to buy a cheap fan to cool me off. This little thing fit the bill perfectly. It has 2 settings, both of which aren't very loud. Well at least compared to my chatty co-workers. I love the fact that I can aim this directly at me without blowing all the papers and other assorted clutter on my desk around. Yet when it isn't needed I can just slide it to back of my cube where it takes up little space. Plus it arrived very fast.
Customer Review: Nice Little Fan but it is Brown not Gray and white Summary: 4 Stars
This is a nice little fan with a small footprint that works well and gives a good breeze for use in places such as on your desk. You should be aware, however, that the whole fan is brown and not gray and white as shown in the picture. Since I wanted something to coordinate with my office I only gave it 4 stars and returned it. Seller refunded my money fairly quickly. I wish that they would represent their product correctly on Amazon's website for those of us where color matters. It would have saved me some time.
