Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lasko 4924 Space-Saving High-Velocity 3-Speed Oscillating Blower Fan

Customer Review: Perfect fan for us.
Summary: 5 Stars

We really love this fan. We live in a condo w/ no AC and not a lot of space. We wanted a fan that could blow hard (like our box floor fan) but that had a smaller footprint like a tower fan. Problem is, tower fans are really weak and we were never impressed, and our box fan takes up over 1/2 of our hallway. This fan is a perfect compromise...it blows very hard, but has a small footprint. Another criteria is that we wanted a fan that would oscillate, and this one does. It actually oscillates very slowly, but I like that...it's like a nice breeze going back and forth.

To the questions of noise...the motor itself actually is quite quiet BUT anytime you move this much air you are going to make a lot of noise. So, yes it does make noise but I think it is dumb to complain about it because I don't see how you could move this much air and not make noise. Basically, it is just more wind noise and less motor noise. I like a nice white noise and so it doesn't bother me.

I also like the fact that the vents that blow the air are a bit higher up. It helps to get the breeze across the room. Our box fan blows more along the ground and can have trouble getting the breeze past obstacles like coffee tables.

Overall, if you need a good, hard blowing fan to cool off a larger room, this will suit you well. I think it might be a bit much for a bedroom (unless it is really hot and you don't have AC), but I could be wrong. Ours is in our living room and will stay there until the summer is over. I would buy one of these again in a heartbeat.

Customer Review: Nice simple tower fan
Summary: 5 Stars

My wife and I bought two of these fans after the first summer heat wave. We've been very happy with them. My in-laws kept raving about the fans using phrases like "is it an AC?" Some other Amazon reviews make the same comparison by the way. So we're back to purchase another as a present for them.

I like the design because it does its thing, does it well, and skips the senseless bells and whistles. It moves air in the room quite well. It oscillates. It has a manual lever to aim the air vertically. And it has three speeds. There are no LEDs which are a pet peeve of mine. There's no remote control. There's no sleep mode. There's no wind simulation mode. The fact that all of these things are missing is a "good thing!" and strongly contrast a Seville Classic tower fan I currently own that actually has all of these idiotic features but which is gathering dust in the garage (the 9 LEDs kept me up at night). I've never heard of the Lasko brand before. But quality seems as good as if not better than similar brands.

Cons? It's not much of a looker. I'm not sure if it's meant to be contemporary, but it's ugly even by contemporary standards. I can't see any obvious way of cleaning it. This worries me a bit as a lot of tower designs come with designed obsolescence. We'll see how it wears over time I guess.

Customer Review: A fantastic, attractive fan
Summary: 5 Stars

I live in an old house which can be downright miserable in the summer because it lacks air conditioning. Not wanting to live in my basement when temperatures were hitting 100 this past summer, I had to find a fan that would propel air like no other. This fan has made me a Lasko convert. Yes, on levels 2 or 3 you should not plan on watching your favorite tv show. You will not be able to hear much. It is loud but I'm okay with that--whether for daytime or bedtime use. As an individual living in the city, I need a form of white noise to fall asleep so the volume of the blower fan is not burdensome. While the box suggest that the fan is perfect for shop areas or basements, I think it can be utilized in living rooms, bedrooms and kitchens. It is an attractive fan that would fit in with most decors and can easily fit in corners or between couches. The picture portrays a grey looking fan but the one I received was a gold/tan color.

For those that are using quiet central air or an air conditioner and just want some device to circulate air, this may not be the best fan for you. For those of you who are suffering in your homes and could care less about noise, I really urge you to try this fan. The price is a little more than most tower fans but I think you will find yourself ordering another after trying your first one out.

Customer Review: pretty good fan
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought the Lasko 4924 fan after reading reviews here and elsewhere. I would not call it quiet, or loud. It is not a great fan, but it may be the best available these days. By contrast, my Patton whole house window fan, bought in 1986, is similar in size and weight, but is a quieter floor fan and will exhaust a whole house if pointed out a window. And it is still going, which may not be the case with the Lasko in 2025.

What the Lasko does, more efficiently and quietly than an air conditioner, is provide comfort, because it is cooling the body instead of refrigerating the air. It may be one of the better fans available these days for $65-75. Those two factors make it a good thing to consider.

For homeowners I recommend ceiling fans. If you install them yourself, they cost about the same as this fan. They're quieter than any other type of fan, and also provide unrivaled comfort. They also tend to be of good quality, unlike today's floor fans (at least the better brands of ceiling fans). With eight foot ceilings we thought ceiling fans would look odd in our house, so we bought the Lasko as a second floor fan. It does the main job of making an 80 degree room feel like 76, a world of difference.

Customer Review: Great Fan .......Hard To Find!
Summary: 5 Stars

After doing some research I found this fan for my mother who lives in a small apt with no a/c. She likes it that way but wanted a good fan. I ordered this one from amazon on 7/15/10 it arrived at her home in a different state and she loved it.

I have a 5000 Sq ft home with 2 zones and a electric bill of $300 a month this 2010 summer. I decided to get one for myself. I can back to amazon a fe days after getting hers and amazon is now out of stock. Too bad because the next referred dealer through amazon is selling the fan for 220.00 plus 30.00 shipping. I paid 69.00 for it here last week. Shameful dealers! I see this fan has been around for about 5 years so I assume dealers are just selling leftovers as well as amazon. I panicked and searched the web and found one on an online store that is actually located 30 minutes firm my home. It was even less than what amazon was selling it for even with shipping. It arrived next day which is today and I am crazy about it. It is directional blowing and awesome. I am buying another one today for our bedroom.

I highly recommend this fan but the dealer selling fir 220 is ripping you off. Do a search online.
