The product arrived in good shape. I plugged it in and turned it on and was greeted by a highly unpleasant grinding noise.
Apparently they don't utilize any sort of quality control since there was a big plastic burr left on during molding. As the impeller spun, it was rubbing against it.
I had to take the stupid thing apart and grind it down with a file after I finally found it. Most consumers would probably return it as defective, so I rated the product as it was when I got it - completely unacceptable.
However, if your unit arrives fine, it's pretty quiet for the air it blows. However, don't expect too much. After reading the other reviews I was expecting quite a bit more wind, but it is just fine for my needs.

My AC went out a couple days ago, and won't be repaired until later in the week. I have a couple of tower fans I was using, but with 90+ degree weather and hideous humidity, they just were not cutting it. I was convinced that I would have to check into a hotel. But fortunately, my mother offered me the use of this fan, which she had purchased the year before. I have to say that this is THE BEST FAN I have ever used! It truly has been a life-saver! It has cooled the room dramatically. I personally think it is a little on the loud side, but that is a "plus" in my book. I have always preferred the sound of a louder fan to use as "white noise" when I sleep...so this is just perfect. I decided I needed to buy one of my own...to keep!Customer Review: Fantastic Fan!

This fan may be a little pricey considering that you can pick up a fan nowadays for around 20 bucks...but I have got to say...this fan kicks butt!! I ordered one online last summer since my occilating fan gave up the ghost mid season and it was near to impossible to find any fans in any store...I was hesitant because of the price, but living on the 3rd floor of a brick building, I needed it desperately...top floor has it's advantages, but it's like living in a brick oven come summer...anyways, the fan arrived and I was amazed at how well it worked...it's quiet and it really blasts the air around and with the air on, it circulates the cool air everywhere. I spent 3 days from hell in this hot weather. I ordered this fan yesterday afternoon and I got it today. (I have Amazon Prime.)
It came nicely packaged. It was also fully assembled - so, no work to be done. All I had to do was plug it in. I've had it on for about 30 minutes now and I just had to write this review. It truly is a high velocity blower fan.
At first I had it on 1 (because the speed goes 0-3-2-1.) I thought that this is the most powerful one. So I was like "oh, well, this is decent."
Then I figured out that this is the lowest possible speed. It works great on 2. And it is amazing on 3.
I have it next to me as I am typing this and I couldn't be happier.

Our purchase of two Lasko 4924 fans has been a real success! They produces considerable 'wind' power without making our lives miserable with loud sound. The silhouette proves attractive in living room as well as family room areas AND when fan isn't needed, it is easy to move and fits easily in an unobtrusive area of each room.
Our purchase through Amazon, was uneventful and speedy which has been typical of all the business we have done with Amazon. We have never had to return a purchase, but many reviews that I've read have applauded Amazon for ease of return. Those sentiments provide even more reason for us to select Amazon, if possible, when ordering online!
