Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lasko 5429 Oscillating Ceramic HeaterCustomer Review: One of the best little heaters around Summary: 5 Stars
Over the years, I've had all kinds of small heaters, both forced air and ceramic. This one takes the cake.
Like most other heaters of this price range, the thermostat doesn't work consistently all of the time, but it works as well or better than any other heater I've used.
What makes this heater great is that it really cranks out the heat! The low setting is great for a small room like a bathroom, and the high setting can bring up the temperature of my large living room in a very short time. I'm really impressed with its heating abilities.
It isn't silent, but it's as quiet as anything else out there. If I turn it on while watching TV, I might have to turn up the volume one or two clicks, but that's it. I doubt it would be prohibitive to sleeping, if you want it in your bedroom.
The oscillation isn't something I've used a whole lot, but eyeballing it, I'd say it rotates somewhere between 45 and 60 degrees.
Customer Review: Medium Room - Ineffective! Summary: 1 Stars
Location: Northeast Ohio. Room size 10X20. Windows new - no insulation in the walls.
We previously utilized a Black and Decker (same size as the Lasko) heater and it would make significant headway unless the temp.'s were below zero (usually increasing the room temp. 4-8 degrees depending on the temp. outside). Yesterday the temp. was approx. 17-20 degrees. The Lasko had no effect on the temp. in the room. The temp. remained the same all afternoon and the forced air furnace periodically ran. This was very disappointing! We were expecting the same effect as the old Black and Decker. Heat was coming from it, just not enough to heat the room. We took it back today and will try the upright Lasko model. Note: We did read all the positive reviews beforehand. We are guessing it just is not made to handle heating medium sized rooms.
Customer Review: Vibrates floor Summary: 3 Stars
We bought this at a local store. Great little heater. Heats our small room quickly, especially on the oscillate function. The fan is pretty quiet; however, it vibrates a lot. It vibrates the floor and even our kitchen table! We tried to put it on a rug to see if it would help, but it only helped a little bit. The vibration noise is like a dull bass feeling in the bones, like when you know a big truck is parked outside, idling it's motor. The heater kicked off for a few minutes, then when it went back on automatically it startled us! It sounded like a plane just landed abruptly in our kitchen! A nice heater except for this. It set our nerves on edge after just a few minutes of this constant vibrating growl. We are returning it. Maybe it would work for you if you aren't too sensitive to noise and vibrating furniture.
Customer Review: EXCELLENT! Summary: 5 Stars
I was searching for an alternate heat source for our newly purchased, older model 24 foot travel trailer. After reading numerous reviews about this heater, I crossed my fingers and hoped that the high praise was legit...and it was! FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS to achieve your goal comfort level and once that is established, this heater will maintain that temperature and then some if you prefer. My trailer is parked on my property so I was able to test it's performance during a cold snap, temperatures in the low 20's at night to mid 30's during the day and it stayed TOASTY warm, 67° on the "medium" setting and on low. The slim design, small footprint and handle are all a plus. This heater exceded all expectations.
Customer Review: I broke the power switch Summary: 3 Stars
This was a christmas gift last year. I was so happy to get a space heater, as I am always cold. It was a gift so I cannot complain to viciously but I am a little disappointed with this space heater. The space heater could be better at keeping the temperature a bit more constant maybe if the sensor was better. The larger problem is that I broke the power switch on the machine. The nob broke after several uses and now i cannot change the intensity of the oscillation or turn off the heater without unplugging it. Luckily I broke the heater in the on position so the heater still works and it is much better to have a broken switch then no heat at all.
