Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lasko 754200 Ceramic Heater with Adjustable ThermostatCustomer Review: Awesome little heater! Summary: 5 Stars
I must say, I was a little skeptical about how well this heater would perform due to its size. The heat pump in my newly purchased home went out in the dead of winter right after closing and I thought I was just gonna die of cold! (ok, a little dramatic, but it was really cold in here!)
I ordered two space heaters, this one and another brand, as there were none to be had locally anywhere. When it arrived, I was concerned about its abilities because it's really small. The other one I ordered was larger and provides radiant heat, unlike this one. This little heater kicks the cold out of the room remarkably well and beats the larger radiant heater any day! (To be fair, a radiant heater isn't intended to warm the room, only the people right in front of it). I have it in my bedroom, which is 16'x 16' and it warms it nicely (even with the bedroom door open to the rest of the very cold house). Not having the $10k plus to have the heat pump replaced, I'll be ordering another of these little guys to add to the radiant heater in the living room in prep for the coming winter months.
The "noise" from the fan motor isn't a big deal. As stated, it's in my bedroom, right next to my side of the bed, and the noise from it isn't an issue. If I have it on when the tv in the bedroom is on, I put the tv volume up from level 5 to 9 to hear it comfortably.
I would highly recommend to anyone needing added warmth!
Customer Review: Nice little heater, but short life span. Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this last year and used it through the winter as a supplemental heat source in my 14x14 home office. It puts out reasonable heat with low noise and a small foot-print. It seems to compare adequately to other heaters of its size and price range.
Unfortunately, mine died after the first winter. While the fan operates in "fan" mode, neither the fan nor the heating elements operate when turned to a heat setting. I hope mine is a rare experience and that others get a greater life-span with their heater, but this is something to keep in mind if you want a robust heater that will last for years to come.
This also comes with a three year warranty. I did not pursue remediation through this warranty simply because I could not justify the time and energy to contact customer support, get an RMA, pack it, ship it, wait for a replacement. Given the price, it was better for me to just buy another heater. And that's what I do.
And that's another thing to point out. While I'm disappointed with the life-span of my particular unit, I was generally pleased enough with it while it operated to just fork over the cash for a replacement via Amazon for this upcoming winter. I hope this unit lasts a long time, but if it doesn't, the $20-$30 spent on it will be far less than I would have spent on the cost of operating the furnace (which heats up every room whether I'm occupying it or not).
Customer Review: The Little Heater That Could Summary: 5 Stars
I was skeptical that $20-worth of heater would really hold its own, but after having it for about a week now, I'm thrilled with the purchase. It came highly recommended, and with good reason!
There was a little bit of "new heater smell" right out of the box, but each time I use it I notice less and less of the scent. Definitely not a deterrent for me.
I read the dimensions and knew that the heater would be small, but it's even more compact than I had pictured. The low setting gets the job done just fine. The high setting gets it done in a flash!
I initially purchased this heater for use in my bathroom so that it wouldn't be so cold in the room when I was stepping out of the shower. I've already found myself toting it around the house for a little additional warmth without having to crank up the whole house furnace. I'm almost always cold, and it only needs to be on for a minute or so on high before I need to turn it down or completely off.
The sound is no different than any other space heater. If you turn it on in complete silence, sure you're going to think it's noisy. By comparison to "nothing," it is. Once you start "living" near it -- turn on the shower, watch TV, even if you're reading -- it's barely noticeable. If you're not focusing on its sound, it's just white noise like any other fan.
Customer Review: Great heater for medium sized room. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this heater my bedroom at night, and the living room on those cold winter nights.
For it's size and watt usage (900 on the low setting I use) this heater puts out a lot of heat.
So far it hasnt been bad on the electric bill (I think it costs me about $30-ish a month to run it about 8 hours a day)
Considering how much that saves me from constantly running my natural gas heating, its not a bad deal. My Natural gas bill has gone down about $90 a month from not running it as much as compared to last winter.
So buying this will ultimately save me $60-ish or more a month I'm hoping.
It functions as advertised, very safe so far, and its casing remains cool to the touch on the outside. It is only slightly noisy and should not bother you at all sleeping near it. (I actually like a small amount of "white noise" while sleeping.) It would also be good for the office or cubicle.
This thing actually can warm up my medium sized bedroom too much after a while, so I generally shut it off before actually falling asleep. My living room is slightly larger, but again, it keeps me comfortably warm. Especially with it aimed near you.
So if you want a small sized heater that packs a punch for under 9 cents a watt-hour. This is it.
Customer Review: Big performance at a small price Summary: 5 Stars
I'm very happy with this heater. It does a very good job for a low price. Some of the other reviewers were complaining because it never turns off and they had to unplug it. The light on the unit is nothing more than an small LED, which is wired in before the off switch. There are no additional converters etc. inside drawing voltage when it is turned off. The off switch permanently switches the unit off and the draw from the small LED,is probably less then 10mili amps.
I bought this fan to replace one I used in my 18 month old son's room which lacked a thermostat I wanted something that provided white noise and kept the temperature consistent in the winter. The problem I had is the fan does not run continuously. I.e. when the heater shuts down via the thermostat the fan shuts off as well. I opened the fan up and via some simple rewiring solved the problem such that in heat mode the fan will run continuously while the heating element will still turn off and on as desired.
The thermostat is also very sensitive, so it takes a little trial and error to get the temperature just right. If you lose patience with things such as this I would recommend that you get a heater with a digital thermostat. This heater though provides great bang for the buck.
